Year 2 Morning Maths Starters (39 weeks)

A brilliant set of resources to get your class to come in and dive straight into answering a daily set of questions to help them settle so you can get on with the register and take lunch orders. This will also give your TA the chance to listen to readers on a 1-2-1 basis, all whilst helping the children gain arithmetic and problem solving skills.

The pack includes 39 weeks of morning starters. For the first two weeks, as you train your class on how to approach these, ‘number bonds 1 and 2’ are the first PDFs to use to ease the children into expectations with 6 arithmetic style questions relating to number bonds within 10 and 20.

All subsequent ones have 4 arithmetic questions and the 5th question is a problem solving one. Each PDF is named according to the topic e.g. ‘Addition and Subtraction 1,2 and 3’ all have problems relating to this as question 5. The files named ‘Mixed (1 - 6)’ have problems covering all maths topics. The problem solving questions ‘Contains material developed by the Standards and Testing Agency for [2016 - 2024] national curriculum assessments and licensed under Open Government Licence v3.0’, where possible.

The resource can be filed by your children daily or printed and cut, to stick in maths books. As a suggestion, it maybe worth using the topics perhaps a week after you’ve introduced it in your main maths teaching to allow the children to have gained the knowledge.
