Final lesson in the Year 6 website design series. Students evaluate and improve their websites using a clear rubric covering safety, layout, and more.
This is the sixth and final lesson in a complete six-part series for Year 6 Computing, focusing on the evaluation and improvement of the personal websites students have been creating. The lesson provides a stimulating and practical final activity where students will explore and evaluate a partner’s website. This resource includes a crucial, detailed evaluation criteria grid (rubric) for a structured peer assessment.
The lesson starts with a recap of essential web design terms like responsive, accessibility, and navigation. It then guides students on how to give thoughtful and constructive feedback to their peers. The core of the lesson involves students using a clear rubric to evaluate their partner’s website based on five key professional design areas:
- Content & Creativity: Is the website complete, detailed, and engaging?
- Design & Layout: Does the website look clear, well-organised, and attractive?
- Navigation & Structure: Is it easy to move between pages and are menus/links used correctly?
- Safety & Responsibility: Does it show excellent understanding of online safety?
- Professionalism & Trustworthiness: Is it reliable, with good spelling and grammar?
After the evaluation, students will use the feedback to prioritize and make final improvements to their own websites. The lesson concludes with a valuable reflection on what they have learned about web design.
