This four-lesson art and design unit introduces Year 6 pupils to the work of North American artists Georgia O’Keeffe and Emily Carr, with a focus on drawing, painting, and collage.

Pupils study the artists’ styles, explore perspective and proportion in landscape drawing, and experiment with colour palettes, brushwork, and collage integration.

Across the sequence, they develop sketchbook studies, trial techniques, and create an artist page, before producing a final mixed-media landscape artwork inspired by a North American landmark.

The unit emphasises composition, atmosphere, and evaluation, enabling pupils to apply and refine advanced art techniques while making meaningful connections to geographical contexts.
