Year 7 Design & Technology – Robo Bot Wooden Toy Project Workbook

A fun and engaging practical project that introduces Year 7 students to working with timber, designing for a target user, and using workshop tools and equipment safely. Students design and manufacture their own unique wooden Robo Bot toy, developing key Design & Technology skills through the complete design and make process.

The project encourages creativity, problem-solving, and practical workshop skills while introducing students to timber properties, manufacturing techniques, and product evaluation.

Students will learn to:

Analyse a design brief and specification
Research and design products for a target user
Explore the properties of natural and manufactured timbers
Develop and communicate design ideas
Use a range of hand tools and workshop equipment safely
Complete pillar drill training and understand workshop safety procedures
Measure, mark out, cut, drill, sand and assemble timber components accurately
Apply finishing techniques to improve product quality
Evaluate their final product and identify areas for improvement
