
This one-hour lesson begins with a 20-minute formative assessment to check students’ knowledge of FOH/BOH roles, food science (allicin, lycopene, sulphur compounds, caramelisation) and cooking methods, studied last half term. After the assessment, students complete a focused 40-minute lesson on malnutrition that builds on the assessment topics of nutriton and develops understanding of causes, signs and prevention.
Learning Focus
Students will:
- Demonstrate prior learning and recall key concepts in the 20-minute formative assessment.
- Define malnutrition and distinguish between under-nutrition and over-nutrition.
- Identify causes, signs and effects of malnutrition and suggest simple prevention strategies.
- Apply learning to short scenarios
