      Nice and simple, very clear instructions. Good use of technology.

    • The link on the first page is a short video showing how bearings are useful in a real life application which I think is a nice way to introduce the topic - students always want to know when they will actually use the maths they are taught!! For task 3 I give students a tube map (the small leaflet style that you can pick up in tube stations) - this saves on colour photocopying if you can get a bundle at once! Hope this is useful to someone, please leave if a comment if it is!

    • Jack Sparrow has hidden some treasure on an island. Students need to follow the bearings to locate the treasure. Answer: Hangman's Tree. Plenary task also uses the map and is a revision aid for other aspects of the angles topic. It is a rolling powerpoint, timings may need to be changed depending on the ability of the group.

    • Students must use the clues and a map to work out where the treasure is hidden in a fictitious town. Involves lots of measuring/drawing bearings.

      Great activity - I offered chocolate treasure for first to complete. It looks simple, but students have to measure accurately to get the answer right.
