Cluedo creative project 1

Cluedo creative project 1

First lesson on a creative project I organised after completing the 'Crime au chateau' section in Expo, but it can be organised by itself. The crime is that the Headteacher has been killed !! This first part takes about 2 lessons. I place students in groups of 6/7: each will be a character (don't forget to have an inspector in each group). In lessons 1/2 we work on character description and they design and describe 1 character each. Then they make a poster as homework with a picture of their character. Could be developped to include work on clothes and accessories.

Cluedo creative project 2

Cluedo creative project 2

Part 2 of a project developed to lead students to acting up a cluedo scene in French. Here they use their knowledge of the imperfect tense to describe what their characters were doing when the crime happened. Linked with 'Crime au chateau' in Expo but can be used independantly, as long as the students have learned the imperfect tense. The word document is a version of the lesson when I was in an IT room.

Cluedo creative project 3

Cluedo creative project 3

Last part of the project. By now students have designed their characters and their alibies. First, we analyse a scene (model of what they will write), this takes a whole lesson. Then, students have to adapt and create their own final scene of a crime mystery involving their characters. This takes a while and they can finish as h/w. They will then have to learn their part by heart, rehearse and select accessories to dress up. The final lesson is when all groups act their scenes and assess each other (see doc). I generally film them too.

French Teaching Resources: Euro 2016 Football Lesson!

French Teaching Resources: Euro 2016 Football Lesson!

I have planned this lesson not only to teach vocabulary and facts about football, France and Euro 2016, but also to help the students to respond creatively to their learning and hopefully share their passion for football! The PowerPoint uses matching cards, colourful pictures and animations and YouTube extracts set to music to inspire the students. It is planned to use with students from Years 6-9 (the final task is very open-ended).Slide 2 states the objective:Objectif: To learn about Le Football & Euro 2016 and to respond creatively to your learning.Slide 3 has a YouTube link to follow to use with the attached worksheet. This uses the official UEFA promotional video (3 mins 57 secs) and the worksheet builds vocabulary, cultural and factual knowledge such as the locations of the stadiums, their capacities, cultural images and numbers of matches, volunteers, teams etc. The worksheet is differentiated with an Extra! challenge section. The answers are on the first page of the worksheet.Slide 5 introduces key vocabulary and can be used with the matching cards. The students should work in pairs/ groups to match the vocabulary and the picture using their previous knowledge, cognates and a process of elimination. Vocabulary:Le joueur de footLe gardien de butL’arbitreLe stadeLe ballon de footLa coupeUn drapeauUne équipeUn carton jauneLe terrain de footUn maillot de footDes chaussures de footThe activity is differentiated as follows:All: Match Up!Most: Perfect Pronunciation Challenge! Some: Quick Fire Questions! (Here the students quiz each other: French to English, English to French, spellings, accents…..).Slides 6 to 17 show each word and the matching picture and colourful animations.Slide 18 has all the pictures for a quick recap. Then there is graded questioning:Slides 19 to 30 have A, B, C multiple choice questions.Slides 31 to 44 are “What’s missing?” slides. Then slide 45 has a YouTube link to the official song and video (3 mins 49 secs) and students should note down new nouns and adjectives expressing the emotions they see and feel (if they don’t know the French they can grab a dictionary later!)The creative challenges are presented on slides 45 and 46, this is to either create an acrostic, a calligramme or a poem (there is a poem template provided). This information is also on the accompanying worksheets.Slide 47 provides the opportunity for reflection.I really hope you and your students enjoy these resources!

3 ESSAYS ON NO ET MOI

3 ESSAYS ON NO ET MOI

Compilation of three essays written by a teacher and Edexcel examiner based on titles from A Level Legacy past papers, but suitable for the new A Level exam, both at As and A2 Level. The first essay is on topic, the second one on character and the last one on style. My students found it very useful to structure their paragraphs and use analytical language. The first 2 essays are written according to Edexcel Legacy criteria, 270 words max, while there's no word limit on the last one on style. I wrote a very comprehensive essay on style as this is the title that students find the most challenging.

Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint Exupéry - Feuilles de travail

Le Petit Prince, Antoine de Saint Exupéry - Feuilles de travail

This is a series of activities to guide the reading of Le Petit Prince. Each worksheet goes in pairs: the students' sheet and the teacher's notes. The focus of these worksheets is to help students understand the book, but also to develop their vocabulary and ability to write creatively in French. There is some literary analysis of the text to give students the opportunity to transfer the skills developed in English. There are also a few grammar exercises, based on the text (irregular plural of nouns and adjectives, adjective agreements and pronouns). This represents 3 - 4 weeks worth of work with students. At the end, I chose to show them the animation movie which came out in July 2015.I created this resource for my Year 12 French B Higher Level group, but I have also used it (with modifications) with my Year 11 advanced IGCSE group.

IDEAS FOR POETRY DAY FOR MFL TEACHERS

IDEAS FOR POETRY DAY FOR MFL TEACHERS

This resource is suitable for KS3 but can be used with KS2. It is an excellent method of creating poetry for all abilities and for revising dictionary skills, both for nouns and adjectives. The poems can be written over 1-2 lessons with the possibility of a homework to produce a display ready piece of work. Students of all abilities are able to produce a good piece of writing and the most able can write more complex sentences with little teacher input. I have successfully used these resources with adult beginners. Above all the students enjoy being creative.

French dominoes and pairs linked to Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Tout le Monde Level 2 module 4)

French dominoes and pairs linked to Goldilocks and the Three Bears (Tout le Monde Level 2 module 4)

These activities work well in groups of 2-4. I get the children to start with the dominoes to link them round in a complete rectangle. Once the children have completed this, I check it and get them to leave it on the table so they can then self check when playing pairs and I know they are matching the words and pictures correctly.Pairs cards have been created so that once printed back to back the cards can not been seen through. The words cards have a different colour backing to the images so children can easily tell the difference. Therefore, they can pick one of each type to match them more easily.
