Experiments in Crime Questions and Answers

Experiments in Crime Questions and Answers

Crime is a multi-billion-dollar business. Crime is also deeply embedded in our social, economic, political, religious and material worlds. But, surely it is wrong that, day after day, year after year, thousands of decisions are taken, millions of lives are disturbed and billions of dollars are being spent without robust evidence as to what is the best course of action for those involved in, affected by, or afflicted through crime. Experiments seek to offer hope, they seek to offer help and they seek to assist in making this world, our world, your world, a better place. Fully loaded with questions and examples from across the world, with 27 sections, 44 tables and diagrams, 203 references and 260 pages, this book aims to:  share rich contemporary examples of experiments in crime that you can read, discuss, learn from, relate to and find out more about  give you insight and inspiration with respect to experiments in crime  introduce the language, terms, tips and traps of experiments in crime  empower you to become more confident, capable and curious about experiments in crime  inspire you to ask questions of experiments in crime and of the evidence they produce  encourage you to look at experimental and non experimental evidence  encourage you to look at real life data and how you can use it to help support and challenge experiments in crime  make you do something: think, talk, listen then act. The 27 sections cover the following areas: In the beginning On everyday life On the RCT family On the advantages and limitations of evidence from an experiment Barriers to doing an experiment in crime Before you get involved in an experiment On consent, concealment and blinding On entry and exclusion On recruitment On random On sampling On the control group On the baseline On outcomes and endpoints On bias On piloting Bullet proof, gold standard and assumption free? On hierarchies of the evidence and other methods On the cycle of evidence and publication On the fate of ideas On the business of reviews On data, data presentation, dirty data and data monitoring On statistics On interim analysis On the number needed to treat, intention to treat and protocol analysis On checklists and integrity of an experiment On ethics

You can use the pre-labeled clues or you can challenge older kids to choose/find the decoder that works for each of the clues. A set of labeled and non-labeled decoders are included. In addition to learning or reinforcing the subject matter, my escape rooms encourage teamwork and critical thinking. As a “timed” challenge, students will be engaged from beginning to end. An answer key and teacher directions are provided. Time needed: 30-60 minutes per room

Democracy Drop Down Day

Democracy Drop Down Day

Drop Down Day / Off Timetable Day Pack - A set of 6 lessons to cover a Drop Down Day (6 hours) all about democracy, elections and voting. The Drop Down Day was put together for Year 9 originally, but all the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3 with a tweak or so. The overall theme for the series of KS3 Drop Down Days was ‘British Values’, so this is just one in a series of six which ran throughout the year. The day works especially well if you can align it with voting for the student council or prefects. At the end of the sessions, after carefully studying the democratic process, the students could come down to the hall to cast their vote. There is much focus on British Values throughout the lessons as this was planned to ensure thorough coverage of Citizenship and SMSC. All these individual lessons have been rated very highly by Tes users and are tried and tested in my own department. Financial Literacy Drop Down Day

Financial Literacy Drop Down Day

Drop Down Day Pack - A set of 6 lessons to cover a Drop Down Day (6 hours) all about financial literacy and ethical spending. The Drop Down Day was put together for Year 10 originally, but all the resources are editable and well-differentiated so it could be used with any year group KS4 / KS3 with a tweak or so. The overall theme for the series of KS4 Drop Down Days was ‘Independent Living’, so this is just one in a series of six which ran throughout the year. The day works especially well if you can have a key speaker from the Finance Industry (the school’s finance director will do) to kick off proceedings; just someone to emphasise how important financial literacy is and how it can lead to lucrative careers. Intertwined with the money and independent living skills gained by students throughout the day are reminders of their responsibilities as consumers to spend ethically. There is much focus on young people’s rights and responsibilities throughout the lessons as this was planned to ensure thorough coverage of Citizenship and SMSC too. All these individual lessons have been rated very highly by Tes users and are tried and tested in my own department.
