The Birthday Party - Data Graphing in the Real World

The Birthday Party - Data Graphing in the Real World

In my classroom, I like to use real world scenarios to enforce the importance of learning and truly understanding math skills. Too often students say "Why do I need to know this?". This worksheet is about planning a birthday party for your classmates. Using the data in the world problem, students will collect, organize and analyze the information to solve the problem. This worksheets applies to these standards: CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.A.1 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.A.2 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.A.3 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.B.4 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.6.SP.B.5. Even though it applies to 6th grade standards, I use these types of word problems for 4th grade and up.

Which graph do I draw? Display

Display that allows students to work out if they should be drawing a line or bar graph. Included in the display is; 1. definitions of main variables i.e. independent variable, dependent variable and control variable. 2. definitions of the data types i.e. categoric, continuous, discrete and ordered. 3. a checklist for drawing a graph. 4. a key word list to help students understand the display. You may want to include an A3 copy of "How to draw a graph" as part of this display. This is sold separately in my shop. Statistics: Pie Charts 2 - Interpreting (+ 2 worksheets and help sheet)

Statistics: Pie Charts 2 - Interpreting (+ 2 worksheets and help sheet)

This the 2nd lesson that I teach on pie charts after the first outstanding lesson on drawing pie charts. This lesson looks at interpreting from pie charts and this tends to be the more style of question that is asked in exams. It goes through a summary of the first lesson with opportunity to judge understanding from the first lesson. It then goes through lots of examples and builds understanding before giving the pupils an opportunity with the 2 worksheets attached. The PPT includes the answers as well as a matching starter, learning objectives and plenary. I have also attached a helpsheet which is an excellent way of differentiating for the less able. NOTE: Feel free to browse my shop for more excellent free and premium resources and as always please rate and feedback, thanks.
