Angle challenge plus a fun activity to encourage pupils to use geometrical language

(0)
Two different activities included: A: Angle challenge - the pupils are given a sheet where they have to deduce all the angles. They will need to know (this is given in a sheet with hyperlinks to support the learning): 1. A red line crossing its length means that it is equal to another red line length crossing a line. 2. Equilateral triangles have 3 angles of 60° 3. Opposite angles of two lines crossing - 4. Angles on a straight line = 180° 5. The internal angles of a quadrilateral = 360° 6. That a square in the corner of two lines = 90° B: An answer sheet is included Activity 2 is a PowerPoint with 9 slides of unusual designs made up of shapes for the pupils to describe to a partner using mathematical language. Included is an old DfE vocabulary list.

Algebraic lessons - leading to challenge and independent learning

(0)
6 easy to follow outstanding lessons and resources to teach algebra. 1. To simplify algebraic equations with multiplication and check it is correct 2. To simplify algebraic expressions of addition and subtraction and then check they are correct 3. Investigations in how to formulate algebraic equations from patterns 4. A more advanced investigation to formulate data of their own in order to create algebraic equations. This could take several lessons. This is completely independent. 5. There are also some worksheets using brackets which could be taught very easily but no plan is in place for this. All the lessons teach pupils to become more independent learners. It is a series of lessons which get progressively more challenging.

Measuring and drawing angles - both practice and investigation

A variety of activities using a PPT and some worksheets. 1. Measure all the angles of 2 sets of parallel lines - What is the least number of angles you need to measure? 2. Given angles and line measurements for pupils to draw 3. Shapes to draw with given dimensions 4. Investigation on internal angles Includes all resources and useful websites to demonstrate measuring and drawing of angles.

Perimeters of irregular shapes.

The lesson starts with a starter activity, where the pupils have to describe a geometrical image to their partner using correct mathematical language. There are two images to allow all pupils have a go at describing or drawing the image. There are 11 irregular shapes with answers for the pupils to work out the perimeter. This was used for a Year 6 class but could also be used for Year 5 and Year 7. There are also two activities which extend the pupils. They are given a set number of shapes and they have to attempt to make the longest perimeter and shortest perimeter with those shapes.
