Percussion Group - Africa

This piece is designed for a group of 8 players and suitable for beginner to intermediate level. Parts at the top of the page (P1, P2, P3 etc.) are the more dominant or characteristic parts and should be established first. Parts further down the page are optional, embellishments and sometimes rhythmically more advanced. This piece has great flexibility with regard to number of players and instruments available: Parts can be doubled (or more) and some parts can be clapped only if instruments are lacking. A longer arrangement is also easy to produce by simply making some parts tacet whilst others play, then reverse parts or chop and change. Also, if your dusty music dept. cupboard does not (shock) include a Bendir, Quijada or any of the more specialised instruments, don’t panic! Keep it simple, use similar instruments and think in terms if hi tone, lo tone, wood, plastic, metal etc. This product includes a full recording of all parts played together, an individual recording of each player’s part (with count and click) and comprises: 1 X pdf image and 9 X .wav files. Group drumming is a fantastic, unifying activity and always produces lots of smiles. This is also a fun way to introduce compound time signatures and rhythms from around the world.

A slighter tougher piece due to the swung semiquaver feel. If difficult, play in straight semiquavers and then ‘swing’ when all are comfortable. Plenty of room for talented soloists here too, once the base (or wazn) is established.

Music Theory for Drummers! (3)

Music Theory for Drummers! (3)

This package continues the study of music theory for drummers with 3 pages of exercises using quaver triplets and semiquavers, with recommended count and sticking. Suitable for beginner/intermediate level. This package is compatible with PAS notation and includes: 3 X .pdf images, 3 X Sibelius files and 20 X .wav files with a count in for each exercise. A metronome is useful with these exercises. Get the boring theory out of the way and apply to the kit as soon as possible! PLEASE NOTE: All theory pages also illustrate the 'shortcuts' available to drummers, due to the absence of sustain (except in the case of dotted and tied notes, rolls, cymbals etc.). Because of this, theory pages may not be suitable for teaching music theory on other instruments where note length and sustain is a factor.
