This is an in-depth research and oral presentation task that would suit students in grades 5-8. It requires students to choose a country and research the instruments and music of that country. Included are: ♦ A list of TIPS and IDEAS for the teacher. ♦ THREE task pages with six criteria areas for students to address. ♦ A marking sheet for assessment purposes. ♦ A table of suggested countries for research and a column to enter student names so you can keep track of the country each student is researching. ♦ A three page list of internet sites where students might find information. My grade 7 and 8 students really enjoy this task and they learn a great deal about the music of many different countries!

Students work on research, technology, reading, comprehension and writing skills as they research the life and music of composer Ludwig van Beethoven. There are TWO different activity sheets and TWO versions of each. These are designed to suit different ages/abilities. 1. There are TWO versions of the first activity sheet. They are THE SAME except for the way the students access the internet to obtain the answers. One uses clickable links to the sites containing the answers, and the other, QR codes. Composer Research Activities This is in the same format as the Composer Research Activities Set 1, but with different composers to research. You will find this a great resource to have because it can be used in so many ways: . ♫ a class research task, ♫ set as an assignment, ♫ homework or ♫ left as a sub lesson when you are away. These activities are excellent as a springboard into listening activities/lessons or a unit on composers or as a research study into a particular composer/era. A TEACHER TIPS page is included! Students are given 2-3 clues on the identity of a composer and they must then research who it is and write their name in the right hand column. Once this section of the task is completed, students must then enter the composers name and other required information into the table provided, in chronological order. An Answer key is provided for teachers!

Teaching young musicians how to write a melody is not easy. I have used the process outlined in this resource for many years with my classes and it works without fail! My students call it my melody writing recipe! The file contains: -A NINE page Teachers Resource that explains in detail, step by step, a process for young musicians to follow when writing their first four bar melody. -A TEN page Student Workbook I show the slides in the Teachers Resource on a digital projector and demonstrate the information one a white board as we work our way through the slides 2 - 9. You may choose to have your students follow and work in their Student Workbooks as you go through the information OR have them watch the demonstration first and then work through their booklet. The students then take the knowledge and process they are learnt to compose TWO 8 bar melodies. The final TWO slides in the Student Workbook can be copied and reused for further melody writing exercises. ♦ Students will need to have a little background knowledge of keys and chords
