There are around 15-17 different combinations on each panel (left contains the subjects of the sentences and right the rest of the sentence), which by clicking twice on each will get you a random subject and second half of the sentence, i.e. “mis padres tiene ventanas” and students have to discuss whether the sentence generated makes sense and why, and how it can be changed in such a way it could make sense, if we want to generate some further thinking afterwards.

Vocab to practise module 5 in stimmt 1 textbook: in der stadt in a fun way. This card game includes 18 items of vocabulary and consists of 36 cards that include a place in town image and its name below. But careful! Some are labelled wrong - Students must grab one card and name the place they see before putting it down on a pile in the centre. If the place is labelled wrong and they read it without correcting it, they will have to get all cards from the pile. The winner is the person who runs out of cards. Perfect to review places in town vocabulary and key sounds pronunciation in class.

A very simple lesson containing 5 mini-activities to do in pairs based around 2 TV guides to exploit this type of authentic text. It’s highly based on the textbook but extending it. It also includes a British TV guide example to work on speaking. As this is done towards the end of the module, I’ve included 2 noughts and crosses sheets for students to do in pairs and thus review vocabulary from module 2.3 Prefiero las comedias. PPT contains a total of 8 slides (1 of them being the answer sheet to the noughts and crosses game).

A translation maze inspired on the language from pages 104 and 105 on the Viva 2 textbook, topic ‘que tipo de casa prefieres?’ (module 5.1). All instructions are on the resource, and should be displayed and explained to students before starting to play. Aim: to find your way out of the maze by shading a path of correct answers. You get out when your path connects the entrance with the exit boxes. If you don’t know this activity it has, in essence, the same principle as a bingo. It takes quite some time to run, as there are 18 different questions/rounds and children get very excited by shading the boxes and counting how many left they need to shade before they get out of the maze! The teacher should then check the answers (all included) of any child claiming to have got out of the maze: note they should be perfect or close to perfect translations to be able to call a winner. If you were to get through the 18 rounds and no one has managed to get out of the maze (unlikely), go back to question 1 and get them to translate the opposite sentence until someone can win. This activity tends to work wonders with any age group and is a nice alternative to bingo. It’s also easily editable - you might find the sentences I’ve used are too challenging for your class. Photo treasure hunt I’ve created for year 9 students learning from home, to revisit basic language by finding different things, taking a photo of them (and uploading them into the document) and writing a short sentence describing them. Inspired in the topics from Mira 1 - 3 textbooks. Meant to be done within 2 periods, but obviously this is flexible. 26 things to find in total 13 things to find - using easy/simple sentences. 13 things to find - using a bit more elaborate sentences (i.e. giving reasons, opinions…)

A very straightforward ppt which covers the relevant language to teach Module 3.4 Durante el recreo from the Viva 1 textbook. Ppt introduces a range of phrases to talk about what you do at break, a reading activity, listening from the book, speaking and finally a closing writing paragraph. You can buy the longer version of this on my shop: Viva 1 - Module 3.4 Durante el recreo + Que haces en clase?, which is a fusion of this sub-unit plus Module 2.2 from the Mira 1 textbook: Que haces en clase?, which I created to stretch the most able, as not only it equips them with things to say they do at break, but also in different lessons. A competitive reading activity called question trails to make reading more fun. This question trails exercise is based on a text on Afroperuvian music (AQA AS Spanish - El patrimonio musical topic). Activity took 2 hours to create but it was well worth it - students worked in pairs and had fun trying to complete the activity first. Rewards can be given for extra motivation to the pair finishing first. As students will have to read the text carefully, the whole activity will easily take around 20-30 minutes to carry out, depending on ability. All instructions and handouts required are inside of the pack. Answers included too. Could stretch the activity even further by having students write a summary on the text once the competition is over. A different and fun way to get students reading for detail without complaining!

A worksheet on LGBT topic that I created based on the AQA A-level Spanish textbook, Unit 3 La Igualdad de los Sexos (3.3 los derechos de los gays y las personas transgenero) but which can be adapted to any textbook. It contains a video and a few follow-up activities, grammar gapfills, vocabulary activities and questions to talk about.

A 33 slide ppt presentation I created to teach 3A “Guten Appetit”,an introduction to food and drink in German, based on Zoom 1 Deutsch. Please note I devised this lesson as a cover lesson, i.e. for students to work on independentl, but it can be perfectly used in a normal lesson as well with a bit of tweaking.
