Here are 2 support sheets for writing a comparison essay between London and Checking Out Me History. Used with bottom set year 10. The Hap sheet is designed to walk students through how to write a sophisticated essay - using advice given in my AQA examiner training. The LAP sheet is similar, but has a writing frame for more support. It covers the theme of anger - so a comparison of how both poets explore restriction; response to anger in both; one paragraph on structure. A model essay I have written to demonstrate how to write about the Inspector - refers lots to ideas about capitalism and socialism; develops ideas about the final speech and Priestley’s message; also looks at Inspector Goole as a regent of God.

An assessment sheet to support a very weak low ability year 9 class to answer a question on Lady Macbeth in Act 1, Scene 5. One sheet has slightly less support on than the other - but I found this to be really useful for weak students still not comfortable with writing confidently about literature.

Lesson designed to get them to think about the contrast between F and S - e.g. cold and loneliness in opposition to family; 2 different attitudes to Christmas; representation of Fred as family and therefore showing how Scrooge makes choices to prolong his misery.

A lesson exploring and analysing key ideas in Act 1, Scene 5. This lesson really supports low ability students in grasping the key concepts of this character. I have also included a version of the grid with my teaching notes to help. Starter is a gap fill after reading the scene - with a differentiated version for really weak students. Prior to this lesson, I did a whole lesson on women in Tudor/Jacobean England - really helped with understanding this character in this lesson.

LA Y9 - part of a series in a scheme. Spent first half of the lesson finishing off reading chapter 3 with lots of directed questioning. They had to see if they could spot any propaganda techniques learnt in previous lesson, and anywhere where they could see potential foreshadowing. they then looked closely at the speech by squealer - differentiated - to look for specific propaganda techniques. they then looked in more detail using the grid.
