This is part 3 of an 8 week unit of work preparing students for their AQA Paper 2 English Literature exam. This scheme of work assumes that students have already been introduced to all the poems (presentation on each poem also available separately). A PowerPoint guiding teachers (and students) through all the activities is included as are all the handouts and worksheets referred to. In this week students develop a deeper understanding of the poems ‘Bayonet Charge’ and ‘The Charge of the Light Brigade’. The lessons/activities include: recap what you can remember about the poems; video clip introductions; recap on SLIME as a structure to poetry analysis; prompt questions about structure in the poems; group activity exploring deeper meaning of quotations; planning and writing a paragraph; language and structure analysis of how writers achieve effects; essay planning sheet; revision flashcards and homework sheets to develop higher level thinking.
