GCSE Core Science - Food and Health - Carbohydrates This resource is one of four lessons and perfect for students of middle to lower abilities at targeting 'C' grades at the end of their course. The focus is on carbohydrates in foods and these resources support the basic glucose and starch testing of different foods (please remember to do your own risk assessment). There is a good components to develop key How Science Works skills and a link at the end to analyzing a familiar junk food. There are also some differentiated activities and tasks. GCSE Core Science - Biology: Microbes and Disease - Lesson 2 - Defences outside the body. This lessons covers the role of the skin as a barrier to infection. The outcomes and resources are differentiated and pitched at GCSE students targeting a 'C' grade at the end of their course. This lesson covers key ways microbes might enter the body and how these are protected against. If you have any suggestions to improve this resource please let me know.

The basis of a lesson on how testing of Antibiotics are done in simple drug trials. There is a good video link and a table for analysis and the setting of more questions. This lesson is pitched around end of course grade C students.

Have you ever thought about the cognitive demand of learning tasks? I had a go at putting common tasks into Bloom's taxonomy. This is useful for differentiating tasks within a lesson and across lessons. Please as always let me have feedback on improving this resource.

A2 Biology - Inheritance - 1. Introduction This is the first lesson on the GCE A-level Biology series on 'Inheritance' and as the title suggested covers an introduction to the key terms. Tasks are differentiated at A, C and E standards. All the familiar examples are covered including Mendelian pea characteristics and coat colour. This lesson follows on from the previous one (V) and gets students to put together formula for the perimeters and areas of squares, rectangles and triangles. These are set as a problem-based learning tasks for froup arrpoaches and there is then some extension tasks using the construction cubes. Lots of opportunities for discussions and exploring students thinking. Introduces the idea of proofs as well. Lesson works well for L5+ though could be higher depending on shapes used. This level 5+ resource can be delivered in maths or science and should take two to three hours to deliver. Ideally the speed section should be combined with some simple practical activity around falling objects (terminal speed) or cars down a slope. The worksheet is also useful for extension. The PPT contains a range of activities for use with either BTEC Applied Science group or KS3 L4+ groups. Resource covers nature, types and causes variation and inheritance examples. There are a range of activities, including fingerprint and eye colour analysis and images for group tasks. Mr Men/Little Miss activity was 'borrowed&' from another TES donor as I liked it so much! A first lesson for L4 pupils, possibly even L3+ students, beginning with key terms, comparison of photographs of graphs drawn by three pairs of pupils and then pupils drawing their own first quadrant. Pupils then identify coordinates from the first quadrant and points find points along lines in the first quadrant and an unknown shape. Resource finishes with a game for pupils and they may design their own version as well. Many opportunities for group approaches.
