This is an informational text writing unit about Ancient Greece. The unit focuses on key facts about the history of the ancient civilization that dated from the 8th Century BC, until its downfall by the Roman Republic in 142 AD. The unit has been split into three separate lessons which will take students approximately 40-50 minutes each. The first lesson is interactive and involves them cutting out facts, and then sorting these facts into paragraphs. In the second lesson the children need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the final lesson your class will need to check their draft paragraphs for mistakes before writing up their work into a neat copy on the template provided. NO PREP is needed! If they answer the questions correctly they will reveal their first word. In Task 2 students will use the same informational text to complete a crossword puzzle. Within the puzzle there are several hidden letters which will need to be unscrambled on the completion of the puzzle to reveal the second word. In Task 3 students will have to cut out 27 timeline task cards about important historical events from the 1900s before putting them in order from the earliest date to the most recent. When they have finished their task they can glue them onto the answer key which will reveal their third word. In Task 4 students will have to find the missing words in a wordsearch puzzle before finding a hidden word from the letters that are left over in the puzzle. This hidden word is their fourth and final word. This is a play script for William Shakespeare’s Hamlet written to be suitable for ages 9 to 14. Hamlet tells the story of a Prince whose father, the King, has just died. His father’s ghost visits him and tells him that the new King, Claudius – who has married his mother – was the killer. Hamlet wants revenge and the story follows a bloody path in which he takes revenge but loses his own life, and the life of the woman he loves – Ophelia. The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. I hope you enjoy it – good luck! There are 15 speaking roles but parts for up to 30 students. The language is a mix of Shakespearean and more modern English. In the second lesson the students need to use these facts to write four paragraphs. Then, in the third lesson children need to choose the most important facts and include these in an introduction; after this they need to answer several questions on a prompt sheet before writing up their conclusion. A great digital research and sorting activity that is perfect for introducing students to some of the key events of World War 2. Great for class work, distance learning or home schooling. There are 42 posters or task cards that include many of the key events and periods from the rise of Adolf Hitler in Germany to the dropping of atomic bombs on the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. When downloaded this resource includes a printable version of the timeline display and sorting activity and a PDF with a link that allows you to copy the Google Slides document and save it in your Google Drive. The research and sorting activity is differentiated into two levels: with dates and without dates. Lower-level students can sort the events using the dates, whilst higher level students can research the dates online before sorting the timeline. This activity is an online resource, that uses Google Slides, and is linked to your Google Drive. It can be completed by students online using tablets or computers. However, the resource also comes in a PDF format, which can be printed. Please ensure when you download this resource into Google Drive that you are logged in to the Gmail account where you wish to store the activity. This is a play script for William Shakespeare’s Richard III written to be suitable for ages 9-14. Richard III tells the story of Richard – a humpbacked member of the royal family who had a deep desire to be king. However, he was fifth in line to the throne with four close family members ahead of him. The play follows the story of his murderous journey to the top, and his eventual demise to Henry at the Battle of Bosworth. The play script is a mix of modern English with some of the famous lines from the real play mixed in as well. I hope you enjoy it – good luck! There are 20 speaking roles with parts for up to 30 students. The language is a mix of Shakespearean and modern English. Ideal for theater performances or plays, reading activities or guided reading sessions. Also ideal for older students who need to know the story better without getting wrapped up in the difficult language - Shakespeare is easy to understand if you understand the story!
