This is a free resource created for learners of Functional Skill English. The mock reading test can be used with any level of the functional skills qualification as well as a comprehension activity for GCSE students.
The resources help learners to use skimming and scanning to identify key details in two texts and works well to assess their understanding of language techniques.

This lesson introduces students to the topic of childhood. It gets the class to consider the importance of childhood and how it helps to shape the rest of their lives.

This is a fully differentiated, thirteen-slide lesson building skills for functional skills level one and two. The lesson uses the topic of Halloween to develop a deeper understanding of the new exam format. There are many opportunities for AFL and there are both reading and writing tasks to practice and build confidence within English.
I put together this A3 sheet to help my students plan and write question five of paper 2 Writer’s viewpoints and Perspectives. I have tried to break it down to make planning easy, and included a punctuation task to help improve in this area.
