A 35 page revision booklet on the musical Blood Brothers by Willy Russell. It was written to support Drama written exam components- Originally based on OCR but will work with other exam boards. The booklet covers-Key Words, Plot and Structure, Themes, Social, Historical and Cultural Context, Genre, Style and Conventions, Characters, Performance Space, Set, Costume, Props, Sound and Lighting Design and Direction of Key Scenes. There are exam questions for students to answer throughout the booklet.

This guide has information on the format of the exam, tips on how to read the question, structure and plan their essay, example paragraphs, with question and activities to complete throughout, finishing with 4 mock exam questions.

A powerpoint on the impact of 6 characters dialogue, describing their characterisation and analysing their change in characterisation throughout the play. Includes revision worksheets on all 6 characters and exam questions to answer.

A Power Point and Marking Criteria handout in preparation for a costume question on Blood Brothers for Section A of the written exam. There is information on specific things to look out for within the costume, research on the era, tasks on colour and material. The final task is looking at two examples of an 8 mark costume question and students using the marking criteria to mark them.

A Power Point for a lesson on lighting for Blood Brothers in preparation for section A of the written exam that looks at describing lighting states using key terminology, analysing lighting designers decisions and writing their own 8 mark question. It includes a marking scheme for peer assessment.

This powerpoint includes direction on the possible types of questions that could be on the exam and how the students could answer them. It includes tasks, peer assessment and learning objectives. The power point has one slide that mentions blood brothers as the set text but could be easily adapted to include a different one. The creating question worksheets are designed around Blood Brothers but again could be adapted. I suggest that it is taught over 3-5 lessons.

A workshop on the history, artistic policy and techniques of DV8. The workshop was designed to be used over three lessons although could be adapted to suit more or less. It consists of information about DV8, warm ups, short tasks based on their techniques that include music and links to DV8 videos. It looks into 4 different DV8 projects and includes links to short clips. The workshop culminates in students creating their own piece in the style of DV8.

Included is an example Concept Pro Forma for Presenting and Performing Texts for OCR GCSE Drama. The Pro Forma is based on performing ‘Blood Brothers’. This text is not allowed to be performed for this component but I have used it so that students are able to see an example of coursework that they won’t be able to copy whilst also revising for Section A of the written exam. This includes a PowerPoint with the 4 questions and answers then some questions to get them thinking about what to write and the criteria they are marked on.

A comprehensive revision booklet for The National Theatre’s performance of Jane Eyre, available to watch for free for schools on the National Theatre Collection. As live theatre is more difficult to watch this year I created this booklet to be used for home and school learning. This booklet prepares students for the evaluation section on GCSE Drama exams for all exam boards. It covers context, set, lighting, sound, costume, characterisation and directors decisions. Each section has a key words test, info about the play and questions for students to answer. It finishes with advice on structure of the essay and practice questions.

A spreadsheet analysing the questions on the past papers of the OCR GCSE Drama written paper over the last 4 years. Looks at question format, theme, difficulty and picks up on trends for each question. Useful if you want to streamline revision close to the exam and predict future questions.
