I am an English Teacher at an SEMH secondary school. My resources cover a wide range of key stages and abilities to cater for the complex needs of my students. Often my resources will be designed to appeal to older students with a lower ability content, but they still work well for younger students also. I have a big interest in Phonics, low ability resources with a high interest level for older students, creating useful displays and making stickers to aid in my marking.

Holocaust Memorial Day Video Comprehension Task

The comprehension questions are based upon a 30-minute-long CBBC Newsround Special called Holocaust: Finding My Family. The documentary follows the story of 14-year-old Maggie as she travels with her grandfather, Steven, and learns about his experiences of the Holocaust. The documentary is narrated by author, Anthony Horrowitz. The documentary was made to commemorate Holocaust Memorial Day, but would also be suitable to support any learning relating to World War II or The Holocaust, or as a cover lesson. The question sheets provided come with three levels of differentiation denoted by the stars in the top right corner of the page. An answer sheet is enclosed for easy reference, but there is also a PowerPoint which enables the teacher to review the answers together with the group. This would also be an excellent opportunity to facilitate class discussion. Included within the resource pack: • Comprehension questions differentiated to three levels. • Teacher guidance sheet with answers. • PowerPoint presentation to review answers. At the time of publishing, the documentary was available on the BBC iPlayer. It was also available from the Newsround page here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/46932823 Newsround also have a website with links to their other Newsround Special Films: https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/44074702 This resource was developed for KS3 and KS4 students at an SEMH school with a wide range of abilities, and was designed to be suitable for those working at age appropriate levels, down to those working at KS1 levels. It would also be suitable for older KS2 students. The only limitation here is the potentially upsetting nature of the content. I would recommend viewing the documentary first, to see if you feel it is appropriate for your students. The documentary was made for CBBC, so it has been made with younger viewers in mind.

I had a yearlong salaried placement in Secondary English at my home school, including a half term placement at a different secondary school within my federation. I was graded Outstanding for my teacher training year. I was offered a permanent role at my home school for my NQT year before the end of my first term of training. My placement school also offered to create a permanent role for me, but I chose to continue my employment at my home school. These are the standards summaries and appendices lists for each Teaching Standard that I created for my standards/evidence folder during my training which you may find useful for reference purposes, or to give you an idea on how you might assemble your own folder. I have also included some guidance on how I went about putting my folder together, and how I organised it. Additionally, I have included an acronyms/abbreviation list. I use these throughout my summaries and appendices, and whilst some are very obvious, some may not be. There are eight summaries, eight appendices lists, one guidance sheet and one acronyms sheet.

SCITT Assignments I had a yearlong salaried placement in Secondary English at my home school including a half term placement at a different secondary school within my federation. I was graded Outstanding for my teacher training year. I was offered a permanent role at my home school for my NQT year before the end of my first term of training. My placement school also offered to create a permanent role for me, but I chose to continue my employment at my home school. These are the essay based assignments that I completed during my SCITT year, which you may find useful for reference purposes. If the topics I covered are relevant to you, you will find my references particularly useful, as these are a collection of pertinent educational research materials, which I found extremely helpful during my training year; not only in completing my assignments, but I found they did inform my teaching practise. Where PDFs are available for the research I have referenced, I have included them here, so you will have a bank of educational research ready to go. Where PDFs were not available, web links at the time of writing have been included. Assignment A Reflect on how your teaching skills and understanding of secondary education have developed as a result of your second school placement. With reference to: • Marking & feedback including relevant educational research. • Classroom management: Timers and Think Pair Share, including relevant educational research. • Use of resources and technologies, Accelerated Reader, library as a resource including relevant educational research.
