Introduction lesson for students studying Edexcel (could be tweaked for other exam boards) medicine in Britain.
Engaging starter activity with higher level challenge questions.
Focus on chronology and key concepts crucial to this course - chronology differences between ideas about the cause of disease/prevention/treatment, continuity & change and factors affecting change.
Overview of medicine from the Medieval-Modern period. Students create a timeline and use a card sort to get an overview of key medical developments in each period. They then sort the information to show whether the development is linked to ‘ideas’ ‘preventions’ or ‘treatments’.
The work sheet called ‘continuity and change sheet’ allows students to track continuity/change in medicine and introduces them to the idea of factors affecting change. They use the information from the card sort to complete this independently.
Progress check questions included in the powerpoint presentation.

Lesson and resources for a higher ability KS3 History group looking at the events of, chronology of Stamford Bridge. Also focuses on key skill of causation and why Harold Godwinson won the battle.

For students studying Edexcel GCSE medicine - could be used for other boards.
Students look at the Second Public Health Act - what it involved.
They then study the different reasons for its passing, students analyse the importance of these reasons, looking at reasons why they were important and limitations to judge the most important factor in the passing of the Act.
A lesson for KS3 investigating the Blitz (events, key facts etc) and the idea of the Blitz spirit. Includes key concepts such as censorship.
Students use sources to support different interpretations about the Blitz spirit.
A good intro to interpretation for KS4 & the new GCSE specifications.

Series of 6 homeworks used with students studying Edexcel GCSE 9-1 Paper 2 Superpowers and the Cold War - to be used alongside the Pearson textbook. Knowledge questions could be used in lessons as cover. I used it for consolidation of knowledge learnt in lesson.

Lesson on Thomas Cromwell’s life & work with Henry - covers everything students need to know about Cromwell from Edexcel spec simplified into one document rewritten using Pearson textbook.
Looks at Cromwell’s life.
Students then use info to track Cromwell’s achievements/ups and downs throughout his life.
They evaluate biggest achievement/failure & what/who helped him.
Lesson for students studying Edexcel medicine GCSE - also suitable for other boards.
Lesson starts off by looking at reponses to a 4 mark question on ideas about the cause of disease, students mark and provide feedback. They can then have a go at answering the question well to achieve 4 marks.
Students then sort evidence to look at the positives and negatives of germ theory.
A 16 mark question is provided with advice and an essay planning sheet including sentence starters.

Lesson starts with a recap of the Lincolnshire rebellion.

Students answer question and or create a timeline of the Pilgrimage of Grace using the info sheet - this is based on the Pearson book but reformatted, condensed and simplified.
Extension tasks that involve either consolidating information or thinking about reasons for failure.
Progress checks looking at role of Aske and Henry + reasons for failure/reasons for significance.
16 mark question planner at the end, with opportunity for a second lesson to write an answer.

Lesson for students studying Edexcel GCSE Henry VIII and his ministers
Lesson focuses on the reasons for, events of and reasons for failure of the Lincolnshire rebellion.
Card sort task to categorise reasons for the rebellion. Students then provided with a very poor description of the events, a ‘failed’ answer. They have to add specific detail to it, including sepcialist terms, dates etc using information sheet, created using the Pearson textbook but better formatted, condensed and simplified.
Students then carry out a P.E.E paragraph looking at the reasons for failure of the rebellion, this links to the success criteria for a 12 mark edexcel question.
Students provided with advice, writing frame etc to help with this.
Kahoot style multiple choice quiz at the end without use of iPads.
