Edexcel GCSE English Literature Time and Place Poetry Devices Checklist Booklet

(1)
Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature (9-1) Poetry Anthology This resource allows for a number of things: Students to make connections between poems Students to develop their skills in poetry essay planning Students to learn what things they need to be discussing and analysing in their essays This booklet identifies 15 of the most common language and structure devices used in poems. It then provides a checklist so that students can note what poems in their Time and Place anthology use that given device. To take this task further students can annotate the title of the poem saying what the device means within the poem and what can be inferred form it; this will help them practise their analysis skills. Providing your student with this booklet will ensure they have become comfortable in identifying the different devices commonly used in poems. PRACTISE MAKES PERFECT. Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature (9-1) Poetry Anthology This resource allows for a number of things: Students to plan out as many essays they want with all the anthology poems Students to develop their skills in poetry essay planning Students will learn how to structure their poetry essays with the simple and easy SPITT, a skill to be uses in both seen and unseen poetry This booklet contains a structure for a poem comparison essay, SPITT, and it is fully explained. The booklet then provides students with a grid symbolising the crossover of every poem in the anthology. Students can use this grid to make links and connections between the themes and devices used in each poem. Students can also use the grid to keep track what essay plans they have done. The pages that follow allow students to plan out comparative essays between two poems. You can set them the task of writing a plan for every combination of two poems (the grid can be used to track this) or you can give them the poems to compare and they can use the planning grids. Providing your student with this booklet will ensure they have harnessed and developed the planning skills they need. It will also allow them to become extremely familiar with the anthology. Edexcel GCSE English Literature Time and Place Poetry Profiles Booklet

Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature (9-1) Poetry Anthology This resource allows for a number of things: Students are able to build up ‘poetry profiles’ Students will learn how to annotate their poems, a skill to be uses in both seen and unseen poetry Students will learn how to structure their poetry essays with the simple and easy SPITT, a skill to be uses in both seen and unseen poetry The main benefit of this booklet, however, is that it allows students to build up ‘poetry profiles’ (as I like to call them). Each poem in the Time and Place anthology has a page where students are able to record essential information. Students will have to record the subject, purpose, context, ideas, language points, structure points, form and their own thoughts for each poem. If your student completes this booklet, they are guaranteed to walk into the exam equipped with all they need to know. ADDITIONALLY(!), this resource comes with a completed booklet! If your students are struggling, they can turn to this booklet for some ideas and help. I would suggest keeping the filled in version under your belt and bringing it out when you go though the poem with your class, either at the end of teaching or for revision! Concise summary of Macbeth Scene by Scene for the Edexcel GCSE English Literature (9-1)

This a simple but necessary resource. Students need to be able to remember the plot of the play in the exam even if they studied Macbeth at the beginning of Year 10 and they also need to be able to know the key details. Having a summary of the play with all the key points available to them will hugely help your students as it has helped my students the past few years! Make a small investment in this and your pupils will reap the rewards. This also comes with a PPT version that you can flick through on the board with your class in a revision lesson or distribute as flashcards. Pearson Edexcel GCSE English Literature (9-1)

The Context of Macbeth

This document takes notes students through the core context topics relating to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. They are detailed notes allowing students to fully understand the climate around Macbeth’s creation. This is an ESSENTIAL part of the course and often isn’t given as much time as it needs, providing your students with these notes will save you a world of hassle! I saw a rise in understanding and contextual analysis in essays after providing my students with this resource.
