This project aims to introduce students to a range of different textiles skills including batik, tie dye, block printing, embroidery and basic sewing machine skills to manufacture a cushion. I have successfully been running this project for a number of years with KS3 students but it could be adapted for older or younger students. A design brief to be used as a mini project with Y12 students studying A-Level Product Design. The resource includes a brief and basic criteria plus a detailed content list for the accompanying project folder. The brief is based around creating a flat pack chair for a child suitable to it in with an existing company range. The resource is editable so can be adapted to meet the needs of your student if necessary.

This short project is based around designing a tooth brush for someone with a disability eg arthritis. The project includes lesson powerpoint and objectives plus design sheet (included in powerpoint). There is also an assessment sheet. This could be run purely as a design task or through to a styrofoam prototype (using basic pre-bought toothbrush head). Lesson Powerpoint & sheets are fully editable. Could be developed further to include packaging. Includes exemplar design work and final products.

This project leads students through designing and making a usb night light with a laser cut card shade. These resources include a SOW covering each lesson, student booklet and accompanying powerpoint. This was aimed at KS3 but is fully editable so it could be made suitable for older or younger students. So our students didn't miss out on basic wood working skills when doing this product design rotation we included a short focussed practical task based on developing accuracy to manufacture a small boat toy.

This document features one cover page for each section of the AQA A-Level Product Design specification. This allows students to set up a comprehensive and well organised revision folder, notes, handouts and resources can then be filed in the correct section. Each page featured the specification content, key words/concepts and associated exam questions.

A D&T careers display covering all areas of technology with career cards for 10 example careers. The resources include an overall display poster but all so the individual career cards which could be printed to provide a different layout or to use them separately. Covers a range of different careers including details about them and expected earnings.

This project is based about a simple light concept based on a piece of PVC electrical conduit with a simple LED USB light. Students then develope the basic concept into a finished product. This project comes with supporting powerpoint and lesson objectives plus a student template and examples outcomes. All resources are fully editable to be adapted to meet the specific needs of your students. This offers the opportunity to cover product analysis, materials testing, polymer theory, design ideas, modelling, development and evaluation. The project has been trialed with Y10 students plus Y12 students but could be adapted to work with most year groups.

A mini project designed to get students to consider the work on an existing designer before producing a design for a chair in the style of that designer. Files include a design brief and a plan for drawing out a basic chair that can be cut using cad/cam or by hand. Could easily be used with younger students too.

A comprehensive powerpoint to lead you through an MP3 speaker project. Originally used successfully for controlled assessment at GCSE but can easily be adapted for a shorter/longer project with older or younger students. Also contains a student template for the project which can be adapted also to meet the needs of your students. Can also be used to teach a range of design strategies as students are lead through creating designs using different approaches. Speakers use electronics kit from Rapid Electronics.

This is an ideal SOW for students to introduce them to Resistant Materials / Product Design. The product is a plywood box with a pewter cast gift. The resources include a SOW with lesson by lesson detail, student work booklet and a powerpoint to support lessons. I used this resources as a competition over a week to raise awareness of design in school, each day a different image was displayed around school and students could try to work out what it was and put in a an entry to a competition. This got students talking about design and we had some interesting follow up conversations in lessons. This could also be used as a starter activity.

A set of recipes used to tech students a range of different cooking skills with a sweet focus. These were used as part of a Bake Off project where students were taught a range of skills before developing their own recipes to complete in a bake off style competition. All recipes can be cooked in 1 hour and include picture stages as well as written stages to allow for differentiation. All recipes are editable so can be adapted or your own use if needed.
