This is a GCSE lesson on longshore drift. The lesson focuses on how longshore drift operates and how it affects sediments along the coast. Key facts about the lesson are: 1. The lesson starts with a video clip about longshore drift. It then moves on to a diagram and writing task on longshore drift. The next phase of the lesson is an analysis task where students use resources to explain the effect of longshore drift on sediments. The final task is a geo skills task using a picture and a satellite image. The lesson ends with a recap plenary. 2. Thousands of people (including British nationals) have been affected by hurricanes this hurricane season. There is never a better opportunity to teach about hurricanes whether or not it's on your LS for T1. This is a GCSE where the learning is focus on comparing constructive and destructive waves. The lesson will allow students to analyse the different types of waves and how they affect the coast differently. Key facts about the lesson are: 1. The lesson meets the requirements of the new GCSE specifications. However, it can be adapted for a top set year 9 group. 2. The lesson starts by exploring how waves affect the coast using the concepts swash and backwash. There is a great little activity that will allow students to differentiate between swash and backwash. The lesson then moves on to compare constructive and destructive waves. A very straightforward activity is used here; students will be able to access the information easily and the teacher can then focus on writing/exam response techniques here. The lesson will become analytical now where students have to apply the knowledge to three different scenarios. 3. The lesson is differentiated. There are visual aids including diagrams, images and a video clip. There are also challenge activities throughout to stretch students' understanding. There are some clever tasks that are designed to get students to apply their knowledge. This is key to doing well in the new GCSE specifications. 4.
