Mammals are a group of animals that share certain physical characteristics. These include having fur or hair, being warm-blooded, and giving birth to live young. Unlike other animals that lay eggs, mammals nurse their young with milk that is produced by the mother. Mammals come in different shapes and sizes, from tiny shrews to huge elephants. They can have different patterns and colours of fur, such as stripes on a tiger or spots on a leopard. Mammals are found all over the world, and some common examples include dogs, cats, bats, and whales. Creating a poster about mammals can be a fun and educational activity for children to learn more about these fascinating creatures. By identifying the different shapes, patterns, and colours of fur, children can gain a greater understanding and appreciation for the diversity of life on our planet. Wassily Kandinsky and Piet Mondrian were two influential artists who transformed the way art was viewed through their innovative use of shapes and colours. Kandinsky, a Russian painter, believed that art should be free from the constraints of representation, and instead should express emotions and ideas through abstract forms and colours. His work, such as “Composition VIII,” is characterized by bold colours and intersecting geometric shapes. Mondrian, a Dutch painter, was a pioneer of the De Stijl movement, which focused on simplicity and abstraction. His paintings, such as “Composition with Yellow, Blue, and Red,” are known for their use of primary colours and straight lines. These artists are great inspirations for children to explore the world of art and experiment with shapes and colours. There are four engaging activities created for key stage one children to help them learn more about these artists. This resource meets the following aspects of the National Curriculum of England: Art, Mathematics, and Science. About Hands-On Education Each hands-on lesson (or activity plan) provides parents and teachers with all the information needed to undertake and complete each activity successfully. We fully outline every step of the way, from what materials you need, to how the final solution may look, covering everything in-between. A huge amount of research has gone into each lesson and much of the key information we pass on to you, as the educator to pass on to your child or classroom. Our method is one of ‘learning by doing’ making the activities open ended with no ‘correct’ outcomes at the end. Our priority is for children to enjoy their learning experiences and allowing for children of various ages to join in the activities. Many of our lessons take place outside and we encourage you to take advantage of locations in your local areas. We believe your child can learn about the world around them by exploring the world at their doorstep. The activity plans are all written with a single child in mind, they have not been developed purely for a home education or state school in mind. As they are developed to be quite flexible our intention is that they can be expanded to a two child household or a thirty child classroom with relative ease. Many of the activities are accompanied by supporting activity sheets (worksheets, timeline cards, etc…) and videos which you may choose to use alongside the lesson. We love books and recommend your local library as one of the best free resources available to you. Check out loads of books about the topic you are learning and spend time reading and looking through them together. In many topics we recommend books related to the activity or broader subject. We offer a full booklist that you may wish to checkout.
