This is a small unit of work covering the skills required to approach the unseen element of AQA Literature A, Paper 2B. It has been designed to go alongside the extracts provided by AQA on their website under teaching resources. (I have not included a copy as they are free to download). It covers at least 5 extracts. The unit is methodical in its approach with a focus on breaking down and addressing the skills in the exam question and how to apply analysis of specific narrative styles and structures, and it was designed with a small class in mind. All images used in the resource have been found and are attributed to a Google search.

There is also a home learning grid attached with the scheme to support students in their reading skills outside the classroom.

This is a scheme designed for the new 2017 GCSE spec for AQA reading paper 1. The scheme has broken down the 4 main questions in the reading section of this particular exam paper and supports students with the key skills for each question type. I have attached some extracts to help with the scheme and it makes reference to some pages from the AQA textbook. This scheme was designed with Y9 in mind or as an introduction for students starting the new GCSE course and is easily adaptable for any extracts or mock exams provided by AQA on their website. It should fill at least 6 weeks worth of teaching, including an assessment at the end, depending on lesson allocation.

Shakespeare's Sonnets

This is a series of 4-5 lessons that explore 3 of Shakespeare's sonnets (1 for homework) as a way to introduce Y7 to analysis for Shakespeare in a light hearted and quirky way. The scheme starts with a comparison between Shakespeare and Justin Beiber lyrics as way to explore the commonalties in language of love. It then progresses to analysing sonnets 116 and 104. The lessons finish with students working in groups to create their own sonnets, using images and words as challenge stimulus. The resource also includes a homework investigation that can be done as a lesson or as a project to then be presented in a Shakespeare market place as another lesson led by the students.

Resource designed with Y7 in mind to highlight some of the basic skills required for descriptive writing for the new GCSE Paper 1 Section B. It is a series of lessons that tracks students through creating atmosphere, a wide shoot and movement to specific objects/people, using picture stimulus. It has a gothic theme that runs throughout the lessons and allows for students to draft and re-draft work to see how to change and improve their creative writing. Aimed at middle ability groups.

This is a 20 lesson scheme of work that supports the reading and analysis of AIC for GCSE. The scheme is designed with AQA Literature Paper 2 in mind but the skills are easily adaptable to other exam boards. The word document outlines the lesson by lesson set of activities with ideas and suggestions on how to vary the delivery of the task. It focuses largely on A02 (close text analysis of language and staging.) The power point supports the scheme and should line up with the order of the lessons. I have not included contextual aspects of the play as part of the scheme, but I have attached a research flip learning activity to guide students on how to explore these AO3 elements.

Macbeth 2017 GCSE Scheme of Work

(1)
Whole scheme of work designed with top set Y10 in mind, but easily adaptable. This tracks students through the key scenes of the play in around 20 lessons in ppt and Ted_ed format. The main focus of this scheme is digging deep and dissecting language and structure. Lots of opportunities for the students to discuss and explore the play independently as well as with teacher guidance. The scheme was designed with students having read the key scenes prior to each lesson in order to focus on the meaning of the play, rather than the reading. There are also 2 example mock exams based on the new spec AQA Literature Paper 1 exam; one embedded in the ppt and the other attached as a different file.

This is a scheme I developed for my Y12 studying AQA Spec A for Love Through The Ages. It is designed for Paper 2 Section B of the AS examination but can easily be adapted as a single novel study for any exam board. There are around 15-16 lessons worth of activities and they have been designed with the idea that students will have read the novel before hand. I have also included some learning grids with quotations for themes and settings that are great tools for revision.

This is a full scheme of work (25lessons) designed for Y9. It has been created with the new 2017 GCSE Literature in mind. The scheme details activities linked to the main themes and characters in the novel with some power points to support. There is a lesson by lesson break down, along with ample opportunities for differentiation and stretch and challenge for the more able. Lesson 7 requires the teacher to source the materials linked to context. Other lessons that don't have a power point are either assessment lessons or reading lessons. This scheme may also be useful for current Y10 studying the novel for GCSE CA and examination.
