This is a thorough checklist covering all of the content of the Y12 and Y13 Stuart Britain and the Crisis of Monarchy 1603-1702. My students have responded very positively to this extra challenge. This lesson focuses on providing students with information so they can complete their own investigation into the Babington, Throckmorton and Ridolfi plots but also study Catholic resistance. This lesson focuses on the reasons behind the failure of the Armada. In order to make the information concise a booklet has been created to guide students through the information in a relevant and interesting way, i.e. cloze exercises, source analysis, card sorts. Answers to card sort activities provided and differentiation in terms of how many cards match each heading. Further differentiation would be very straightforward if needed. This is a selection of 8 wordsearches covering various KS3 topics. They could be used as a bell task, starter or extension task. To make the wordsearches more complex students could then be asked to define the words they have found or use them in their historical context.

This lesson overviews the emerging rivalry between England and Spain with a focus on commercial rivalry and the work of Francis Drake. All information needed is on the PPT or handout. Various activities included to ensure engagement and appeal to learners such as creating a timeline, cloze activities etc. A practice exam question included as a plenary with planning support.

This lesson is based on a booklet and PPT helping students to understand different aspects of rivalry between England and Spain. A starter activity based on a practice exam question recaps on Elizabeth's foreign policy decisions to provide context and various activities throughout the lesson and booklet help students to understand key turning points such as the Spanish Fury and the Pacification of Ghent. A final activity asks students to create a graph using evidence to reflect on the relationship between England and Spain over time. This lesson would be straight forward to differentiate further if needed.

A starter activity recaps key knowledge in terms of events and dates and a plenary activity based on a practice exam question encourages students to apply new knowledge from this lesson. The main activity relates to the textbook above.
