In this unit, children will follow the journey of Theseus, from his humble beginnings in Troezen, to his treacherous travels to Athens and then finally his glorious victory over the Minotaur in Crete. Using the story of Theseus as inspiration, children will write their own story creating their own hero, monster and setting for their final assessed piece. In this unit, children will follow the twelve daring labours of the mighty Hercules. From his brutal fight with the Nemean Lion to the flight of the Horses of Diomedes to the skirmish with the dreaded Hydra plus many more! Developing their literacy skills, children will write a newspaper report about Hercules completing all of his labours and becoming a god. They will use a reading stimulus to absorb information about Hercules and then demonstrate their understanding creatively.
