A lesson which takes pupils step-by-step through forming ideas for a picture based creative writing task and how to structure their response. Mainly for use with younger year groups or those of lower ability.

A lesson aimed to encourage pupils to begin experimenting with structural techniques in order to reach the higher levels in creative writing tasks. This lesson focusses on the use of recurring motifs through the use of lines from nursery rhymes.

A 9 lesson sow. Each lesson has differentiation for lower and higher ability pupils. There is also a strong focus on the use of gothic elements within the short story.

A creative writing piece based around the masked ball in 'Romeo and Juliet'. Can be split over two lessons. Can be used with my R and J sow or as a stand alone.

An introductory lesson to studying ‘The Speckled Band’. This lesson focuses on Doyle’s choice of narrator. There are differentiated slides to convert the lesson for pupils of lower and higher ability.

A revision booklet designed for use with lower ability GCSE classes in preparation for the new specification exams. The booklet aims to narrow down the number of quotes the students will need to memorise while also allowing room for them to make notes on the way characters and themes link to context.

A lesson to use before studying Macbeth - it encourages students to consider the motives behind murdering the king and the different feelings of the characters. It is also a great activity to use as a speaking and listening piece both for group work and for drama.

This creative writing piece uses an empty fairground setting as inspiration. Depending on pupil ability it could be used over the course of two or three lessons. A clear structure is provided with some writing frame sentence starters and modelled paragraphs.

A lesson focussing on the Prince's warning in act 1. two possible versions of the lesson - the main content is the same in both but one focusses on analytic skills while the other focusses on improving creative writing skills.

The second in a Year 7 Survival Guide SOW, this lesson explores how to create an author's note page for the survival guide booklet by writing in an informative and interesting way. For more lessons in this SOW please see my shop.

This could be used as 1 or 2 lessons. The first section involves watching and discussing existing versions of the scene (unfortunately I could not attach these for copyright reasons but there is space for you to add hyperlinks if you so choose) and then students can make their own scene choices on a worksheet. The second section involves group work speaking and listening - there is a slide with the NC levels and an extra left blank for you to add your own school's levelling system.
