A sample unit for using drones in class - the ppt explains how we use drones in our school - we create ideas for a problem that a drone could solve in Nearpod. These designs are then planned on paper and prototyped in Tinkercad. The final version is printed using our 3D printers. We then use Tynker to program the drones. Also included are some introductory skills that you can build with your classes when they fly the drones - theres one for getting them to land the drone on a target board, and take a photo of the ‘Reconnaissance’ board and return to base. You can use the Score Card template if you want to turn it into a competitive team challenge. A bundle of 5 different themed technology timeline starters featuring Inventions, Hardware, Computer Games, Females in Computing and Sci-Fi Films. These make great starters for any lesson or year group but are particularly good for GCSE Computer Science or IB courses to get them talking about influential individuals or pieces of technology. What you need to do is divide your class into mixed ability groups of 4 (pairs also work well) and give them a blank timeline board, the 17 events, and the set of 4 team cards. Each person needs to read out their card and see if they can put a few of the key events down (each card tells them the date of one event). They then need to use their team work skills to work out the dates for the other events not mentioned on their card, but that links to or is mentioned on another card. I would recommend laminating the blank timeline boards, team cards and the printable cards so that you can use several times with different classes. I printed off two copies of each board so that I had a couple of spares. Any teams that finished early were then given a new board to solve together. If several teams finished at the same time I got them to swap over their boards. Be vigilant about some of the cut up events going missing! I labelled on the back of the events what themed board they went with (e.g. CG2 = Computer Games Set 2) as I was worried about them getting jumbled up when I collected them in. A set of starters, lesson presentations, worksheets and assessment templates for a Scratch Game Design / Programming unit of work. Lesson 1 can be spent investigating Scratch, then in the subsequent lessons the pupils will start to build sample projects, before they begin planning their own ideas for a game. Peer review templates are attached to encourage to get and react to feedback from their peers. Success Criteria is included so that pupils can see how their work will be assessed and tick off each milestone as they achieve it. Starter activities are also included, with solutions where needed. A bundle of Computer Science Zip Grade starters / mini tests / knowledge checkers for GCSE and A Level or IB level Computer Science Edexcel / AQA / Cambridge. You will need to download the Zip Grade app for your phone and set up an account. Once you’ve done this, you can use your phone to scan pupil answer sheets and automatically grade them. I’ve attached a setting up instructional guide for using Zip Grade if you’ve not heard of it before. Please be aware that for the pro version of the app (unlimited scans) you have to pay 6.99GBP for a year - it is worth it though! I’ve added a link to a useful YouTube guide on setting up as well, recorded by Thomas Grodek. Celebrate International Womens Day on 8th March with your tutor group, class or as part of an online assembly. Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten to mention when International Men’s Day is (it’s 19th November if you weren’t sure!). Included in the presentation is a selection of ideas to do in class, online or at home, as well as a Netflix and Disney+ watch list. On the second half of the presentation is a deep dive into some ideas for discussion if you want to dig a little deeper into some of the issues facing many women day today, such as what is the ‘mental load’, why are some people scared by the word ‘feminist’, and why shouting at a woman in the street whilst she is exercising is not a compliment. Included are a set of slides which can be presented online or viewed and printed offline. Also included is an online wordsearch (for which I have also included a printable version), and a memory round powerpoint, with a timer. If you've just starting teaching IB Digital Society this year, you'll know that there are hardly any resources out to use, apart from the textbook I've uploaded the full set of lesson presentations that I am using for the Higher Level aspect of the course, with presentations and suggested activities for aspects of 5.1 Global Wellbeing, 5.2 Governance and Human Rights and 5.3 Sustainable Development I am hoping to add seperate bundles for the IB Digital Society Standard Level course soon, as well as resources for the teaching the IA and Extended Essay for this course Please do give me feedback on these resources as I have also started teaching the course this year, and would love to know if you have found these useful, or if there is anything you think could be added / improved or removed! If you’ve just starting teaching IB Digital Society this year, you’ll know that there are hardly any resources out there to use, apart from the textbook I’ve uploaded the full set of lesson presentations that I am using for the IA (Inquiry Project) aspect of the course, with presentations, suggested activities and the 3 example IAs and Process Documents provided by the IB I would recommend that you start with the activities shown in the ‘Analysis of Exemplar Inquiry Projects’ powerpoint. Get your students to look at the 3 example projects, and then ask students how they would mark them, using the IA Rubric. Finally, ask students to compare their grades with the grades from the IB You should then be ready to start the next powerpoint ‘Creating Your Inquiry Project (IA)’. Students should use the ‘Evaluate Your Topic’ template to decide on an emerging technology to investigate, then complete the Process Document template. Finally, students should prepare a set of slides and a script for their 10min video using the templates provided.
