As an assessor for external I find that Ionic Equations are very easy marks for students to gain. However, its frustrating to see that very few correct answers are seen. I thought I make a ppt using my simple rules that I used as a student. This a FREE resource for helping to build a strong found on basic equations. I have also posted this on my You Tube channel for use, which I have attached here for use. I have included different chemical reactions and added some extra points to help you master ionic equations and extend your knowledge to conclude on TYPE of reactions also. Some tricky points that MOST students would struggle attached on this PPT.

This resource worked well with my students when it came to understanding Distillation & Reflux experiment setup. In the power point there will be a handout to print (the last slide) and then an animated slide that reveals the answers one by for the teacher to explain EACH step/point of the process. The rest of the animated slides make it very clear where students make the most common mistakes during the experiment. The final slide are 4 KEY points summarised in case students have missed them during the lesson. e.g WRONG SET UP (1) – REFLUX & DISTILLATION WRONG SET UP (2) – DISTILLATION WRONG SET UP (3) – REFLUX OVER HEATING (4) – REFLUX & DISTILLATION

This recent Power Point, with animation, I have created to make it easy to cover the MAIN points on this topic. Many books make it too complicated for non-physicist !. It contains 5 slides that covers the basic from SHE to Cell notation. Then another 4 slides which goes through slowly an exam question, including the official mark linked to the worked out answer. The last 3 three must be printed out as a worksheet for students to annotate or write on as the first 5 slides are explained as shown.
