The Amazon Rainforest

This lesson plan and accompanying resources takes a very child-active approach to learning. Most of what is learned is through the children researching it themselves and presenting what they've discovered to their classmates. The art lesson linked to it creates a lovely Amazon display for the classroom and the children's projects can also be displayed on it.

This resource is en interesting science lesson which will hopefully interest even the toughest of audiences!! The PowerPoint gives a general overview about the reptiles, while the four Word Documents are fact sheets for four different types of lizards. These can be used for group research, where pairs or groups read about a specific lizard and tell their findings to their class. There are also a few links for clips of the lizards which are a bit of fun! The Art Lesson is a very cool 3D paper lizard - be warned, however, it is tricky for a lot of students - step by step approach is best! :)

This resource focuses on the lives of three different women, all born during the 1800's; Florence Nightingale, Marie Curie and Elizabeth Blackwell. It focuses on their achievements in relation to medicine and science (despite the obstacles presented to women in that time). You can pick and choose from the PowerPoints, or study all of them together, and there are a few slides that focus on recalling information, and others with activities for the children to do. Hope it is of use to some people!! :)

Telling The Time

This is a simple board game based on telling time for children to play in pairs or small groups. It focuses on the analogue clock and deals with telling the time to the hour, the half hour, quarter to and past, twenty to and past and five to and past (If desired, for younger grades/classes, you can just use the flashcards dealing with hours, half hours and quarter hours). The resource includes: - instructions, - two different game board designs (with two slightly different variations of each), - flashcards for the game, - and an answer key. The answer key is very handy for those children who are not fully confident with time - they can check the answer key to see if their team members are correct and can move forward a space or two! I have also included flashcards that are unnumbered that cannot be used with the answer key for teachers who may want to give children a bit more of a challenge! I find this game perfect for maths stations and children are wholly independent while playing this game!
