Paper 1 Question 3 2026 ready on tension

So AQA have finally changed question 3 to give students more help for the structure question. At the moment, we know the focus could be tension. Therefore I have written responses to 3 past papers (Rosabel, Mr Fisher, Hartop) as if they focused on how structure is used to create tension. The model answers are longer than required for the 8 marks but showcase the range of ways students can comment on structure to meet the assessment criteria for this question as they work chronologically through the extract to explore how the writer creates tension.

Here is my first attempt at some model answers for the May 2025 Paper 1 Language exam where the extract came from The Midwich Cuckoos. As extracts go, it was quite tough but the juxtaposition of Oppley and Midwich was something I really focused on. I have attempted two high level responses for questions 2-5 with a slightly different approach for each. I have placed them side by side so students can easily compare them and see which structure they prefer. These are just the model answers for questions 2-5. AQA Unseen June 2025 Model answers

2 high grade model responses to the 24 mark question in the AQA exam about the poem Table by Robert Hull and 2 high grade model responses for the 8 mark method comparison question where students were asked to compare ‘Table’ to ‘Like a Beacon’ by Grace Nichols. By placing the 2 model answers side by side, students are invited to compare the success of each model answer. In the 24 mark response, response A may be better at commenting on the impact methods (including structural methods which students often find it difficult to talk about) while response B is better at sharing impressions, alternative interpretations and maintaining a thread about how a feeling of nostalgia is conveyed in the poem. The questions and the poems themselves are not included but are easy to find online.

AQA Paper 1 Question 5 2025 model responses

2 model responses for the AQA 2025 Paper 1 Question 5 narrative prompt focused on technology breaking down. Both are aimed to meet the criteria for grade 9 using the drop, shift, zoom, leave method. I have called one story ‘Rebooting Humanity’ which has an uplifting ending and the other ‘404: Future Not Found’ which has a more bleak and nihilistic setting. Both employ the conventions of the dystopian genre and include the little tricks to impress examiners such as a motif, pathetic fallacy, semantic fields, a wide range of punctuation , single sentence paragraphs and a circular structure to add cohesion.

Kindness in A Christmas Carol

(0)
A revision sheet exploring the importance of kindness and generosity in A Christmas Carol. Comes as a revision sheet or a fluent model response. Includes: Thesis-style introduction P1. Scrooge’s lack of kindness in Stave 1. P2. Fred’s kindness as a foil to Scrooge P3. Fan’s kindness P4. Fezziwig’s kindness P5. Cratchit family kindness P6. Scrooge’s new-found kindness in Stave 5. I tried to cover 6 possible points that could be made to meet the assessment criteria. This results in a response that is over 1200 words. In truth, writing 3 of the 6 paragraphs should be more than sufficient in a timed exam.
