A lesson focussing onthe persuasive techniques used in Old Major’s speech from Chapter 1, including pathos, logos and ethos. Modelling of analytical response included.

A lesson encouraging students to think about the building of tension in Chapter 2 of William Golding’s, “Lord of the Flies”. The main skill students will focus on is evaluation to help them prepare for the English language paper.

Designed for the GCSE poetry cluster “Youth and Age” this resource has been designed to help students revise and memorize key ideas, quotes, themes and techniques used in all 15 poems in the cluster. 10 questions have been designed for each of the poems with answers provided. Can be used with all abilities: with lower set i have given students the questions/ answers to learn and have tested them on these in lesson, whilst top sets, each set of 10 questions is a great way to test knowledge of each of the poems and identify gaps in knowledge for revision. Can be completed as a starter/ plenary task in lesson or set as homework for revision. Students have found very useful during lead up to final exams.

This resource was created for Year 11 to aid students in their revision of plot, key events, characters and quotes. 5 questions have been created per chapter in the novella, each question ranging from recalling information, mulitple choice questions, sourcing key quotes and analysis of writer’s methods. Suitable for all abilities and can be used in lesson as a starter/ plenary task or set as homework.

A question 3 focussed langugae lesson for OCR examination board. Students will be encouraged to identify and analyse both language and structure techniques used within an extract from “Jane Eyre”. Could be adapted easily to other exam boards.
