Overview
• This unit will provide students with an opportunity to develop their English Language skills through the study of Literature whilst also engaging in discussions on a range of relevant issues that affect young children growing up and learning about themselves.
There is a Scheme of Work but also 12 completed PPT’s to take students through the lessons. The book is available on Amazon or contact the publishers.
Unit Objectives
• To explore themes such as: Identity, Self-esteem, Adoption, Family and God’s Love presented through the use of narrative voice, characterisation and language.
• For students to be able to select relevant quotes to support their own interpretations and ideas.
• For students to comment on and interpret writers language and structural choices, connecting these ideas to the themes of the novella and their own experiences.
• To create opportunities to write creatively and produce some non-fiction research.
• To write an analytical essay, examining the writer’s use of langauge and/or structure to engage the reade
This 6/7 week scheme of work will is suitable for Year 8 or Year 9 students. It will enable them to study language through literature based on a storyline that is relatable to teens and young people.
