This is a Comparing Fractions activity, aimed at Upper Key Stage 2 children. The activity is differentiated for HA, MA and LA children. Children will use bar modelling to compare fractions, before moving onto using < , > or =. Children will then move onto reasoning questions and missing number problems. I found it beneficial for the LA children to complete a more visual style activity (e.g. one using circles to show the comparisons before moving onto this task). Children will need to understand how to find the common denominator in order to complete this activity. In addition, HA children will need to be able to order fractions. I prepared this document whilst job hunting for my NQT position in a primary school. The document covers 21 different interview questions and their respective answers. This might be especially useful of NQTs, as you might be looking for an idea of the type of questions to expect and the types of answers they are looking for. This document should not be used as a script as you will need to also use your own examples from your experience in schools. The document is aimed at giving you a starting point for your own ideas and schools change their questions all the time, so it can’t be guaranteed that all questions are on this list, but the main themes may remain the same. The document is aimed at primary school teaching interviews in the UK, so if you’re in secondary or looking at international schools, I’m not sure how useful it’ll be. Differentiated Equivalent Fractions Homework activity - aimed and used with a mixed ability year 5 class. The sheet covers; writing equivalent fractions using a diagram, identifying the odd one out, filling in the missing numbers,and solving worded problems. It moves through fluency, reasoning and problem solving questions. I designed this for use with one of my Year 5 classes, but could also be used in Year 6. This activity could also be used as part of a lesson.

This resource is aimed at Year 3 children, who are learning how to multiply using the Grid Multiplication method. This worksheet covers 3x, 4x and 8x. The worksheet focuses on number facts and families, such as 2x6=12, 6x2=12, 12 ÷ 6 = 2 and 12 ÷ 2 = 6. Higher abilty children are faced with some missing number problems and then problem solving questions. All sheets are .docx files for easy editing to suit your class/children. I made this KS2 Spag guide for the children and parents in my Year 4 class. I designed it for home learning but could also be useful back in the classroom. There are 2 variations: Homelearning/revision/parent guide based A useful tool for children to use whilst writing at home, including links to bitesize and songs where appropriate. Classbased - essentially the same as the home version except I have removed the links to online resources. I used these in learning journals or stuck in the back of literacy books for children to refer to, so I felt it looked neater if the links were removed. I learned that all the questions can interlink with each other, and that all questions require an example from your experience, as well as always linking back to pupil progress. Children act as detectives to find the adverbs in the short story. It is aimed at Year 4 and contains the different type of adverbs - perfect for a spag lesson or starter! I used this as part of a spag lesson. Children act as detectives would find and highlight the adverbs at the start of the lesson. Then I would explain what adverbs are and examples from the paragraph. The children would then have another look and highlight any new words in a different colour. The text could also be used as a morning task, starter or revision activity. I have uploaded a word document and pdf so you can easily edit and adapt if the text if you wish to. In this activity, children are converting between fractions and decimals using bar models and number lines. Then, children will complete reasoning and problem solving questions, such as odd one out. I used this with a Year 5 class. I asked all of the children to complete this activity (some with support) and the HA children had a second sheet to challenge them. Children will need to understand fractions and decimals before completing this activity. This activity could also be used as a homework task.

This activity is aimed at a Year 5 class covering the conversion of improper fractions to mixed numbers and vice versa. The worksheets are differentiated for HA, MA and LA pupils. Children will be completing missing numbers questions and using the symbols <, > or = to compare improper fractions and/or mixed numbers to each other. A possible learning objective could be: I can convert between improper fractions and mixed numbers.

This is a full lesson on investigating area for use within KS2. Perimeter is also recapped at the start of the lesson. To investigate the area, children are given various shapes (pieces of paper) of varying sizes and they are challenged to work out the area with the only knowledge that area is the inside of the shape. An example on the sheet shows that the 10 (length) multiplied by 5 (width) will give an area of 50cm2, but it is up to the children to work out the correct formula. Each of the shapes have been measured and drawn onto an A4 piece of paper (also included). The shapes are differentiated and fall in line with the times tables. Some children are told which shapes to measure where as some children are given free choice. I taught this with a mixed y4/5 class and therefore the worksheets cover both y4 and y5. You could use this activity across KS2.

This resource is aimed at KS2 studying the formal method of multiplication. Children will be multiplying 2 digit numbers by 1 digit numbers. There are no fluency activities in this worksheet as this activity is solely based on reasoning and problem solving questions. The activity is differentiated 3 ways and consists of reasoning and problem solving questions, for example missing numbers, odd one out and then worded problem (including multi-step problems).

This worksheet is a SPAG lesson focusing on identifying and using prepositions. It is aimed at KS2 and has been used successfully with this age range. The activity is based on the Taj Mahal, as we were doing this as part of our around the world topic. The unit focused on children being able to write their own setting descriptions.

This is a prepositions lesson/activity themed around the story of Beowulf. I used this spag activity as part of a larger writing unit, where children were retelling the story of Beowulf. Ideal for Year 3/4. Differentiation: the higher achievers were expected to write more sentences including prepositions and extend them using conjunctions and other grammatical devices we had been learning about.
