This is the first week of work based on newspapers and journalism for year 4. The second week culminates in the children writing a newspaper report on the battle of Watling Street and Boudicca. This ppt can be adapted for different age groups. Each day has a grammar starter followed by the main learning objective and a plenary. This is a lesson based on the first chapter of Firework Maker's daughter by Philip Pullman. It is suitable for year 4 but can easily be adapted. It has low, medium and high risk activities on the powerpoint from which children can choose their own level of activity. It also has some extension activities which could also be lessons in themselves at a later date, including some reading comprehension questions which would be suitable for a guided reading group.
