Shadowsmith Short Reading Unit

This unit of work is based on the opening extract from the children’s book 'Shadowsmith’ by Ross MacKenzie. It is aimed at Year 5 or 6 pupils as it focuses on the Key Stage 2 reading domains. In order to teach this unit, you will need the novel. The extract taken from ‘Love Reading for Kids’ is sufficient but I guarantee that your children will want to continue reading the book as it is fantastic! You will also need my guide to vocabulary activities as the plan refers to some of these. This is included in the pack. The plan is split into short 20 minute reading sessions. You may decide to link sessions together or complete them daily. It is flexible. There is also a large focus on vocabulary throughout the plan. Developing vocabulary is crucial for reading. Enjoy!
