Design Technology Electronic System Diagrams Design Component Information Cards and Activities

This resource is aimed at helping students to understand how to develop systems diagrams and which components will best suit the needs of the design brief. The starter activity introduces the concept of systems diagrams and asks students to correctly identify Input, Process and Output components. The students are then given the information cards and asked to select suitable components to meet the design briefs. I created this resource having taught electronic products for years and finding that I needed a way to make the principles behind the development of systems ideas more intuitive. In addition to

Electronics quiz

Simple quiz on basic electronics principles. A good starter activity for KS3 electronics students or KS4 design technology students requiring to develop their understanding of electronics. More slides can be added with your own specific questions, just copy and paste either the tick or the cross slide and then add your own question, the animation is taken care of. The idea is that students will stand up if the answer is correct and stay sat down for incorrect answers. This physical activity gets students moving and ensures that they are all involved with no opportunity to avoid answering.

Lesson starter including a simple introduction to systems diagrams. 26 slides with component images and names. Students to use traffic light cards to indicate if they think the component is an Input, a Process or and Output component. This lesson works well as a stand alone starter, or alternatively use this along with my component cards lesson where students use the information provided to select appropriate components to complete various systems diagrams.

This starter activity is a fun way of quizzing students on their electronics knowledge The quiz is on a PowerPoint presentation uses hyperlinks to take you to the next question if you get the answer correct and incorrect answers to a game over page. There is even a 50/50 option to take away 2 incorrect answers. This is editable so you can change the questions to suit your own means, but if you do so it is important to make sure you either edit the hyperlinks or always keep the correct answers in the same position.
