Changes by Anthony Browne - Transition Writing project Year 2

(0)
This is a sequence (approximately 2 weeks worth of planning) based around Anthony Browne’s Changes. It includes differentiation to support less able writers. It can be used at any point but it particularly useful at the end of the year when Year 2s are moving onto a new class or school. The main learning points are: Going through changes (linked to PSHE) Exploring new vocabulary from the text. Writing list sentences or compound sentences (some prior reaching is required). Exploring synonyms for ‘changed’. Water colour illustrations (linked to Art) Innovating the story to make it about a change the children are facing. This resource is FREE, so if you like it, please leave a positive comment. Thank you!

These are two stand alone (fully editable) lessons to secure the children’s understanding of the conjunction but in compound sentences. They can be used on their own or within a teaching sequence. The use of emojis helps children understand what the word but does in sentences. There are supporting picture and cue cards to aid understanding and support sentence writing.

Phonics Sound Mat GPC charts for KS1 and SEN

Here’s a selection of GPC charts for use in KS1. The sounds are grouped by colour so the children can learn to find the correct sound and then select the spelling they need. They feature most of the alternative spellings of Phase 5 and common issues (such as a b/ d confusion and the ‘tr’ adjacent consonants). There are A4 versions and A5 for use inside English books.
