These lessons should be delivered before going on to teach other Year 7 Science topics which involve using lab equipment, measuring masses, making solutions or using Bunsen burners. This lesson assumes that students have already had a lesson to train them in lighting and using Bunsen burners. For Combined Science, Foundation students only need to cover the first two objectives; Higher tier candidates also need to learn about factors affecting the position of the equilibrium. It includes the background theory that students need to know. The experiment is complex and time-consuming, so I have suggested some short-cuts and have provided easy-to-follow methods to share with students. I’ve also included exemplar data for students to analyse if their experimental data is not sufficient. The resources are easy to follow for teachers and readily accessible for students.
