French mat - grammar - ks3 / ks4

I created a mat for my students to use (KS3 /4) to improve their writing and speaking. They are always asking for it and it has proved to be very efficient to boost their paragraphs. The first page focuses on complex structures (how to extend answers) The second page focused on tenses. (past / present / future / conditional) + some modals

Each sub topic includes : Two gap fills (one from an easy piece of writing and one from a more challenging one). Vocabulary research : I highlighted key words I would like my students to research and use in their own pieces of writing. 4-5 sentences to translate (mostly EN - FR) . (I used grammar concepts and vocabulary from the MATS I am also selling - feel free to check my shop!) One writing activity where I either ask the students to write a few sentences including given words (short writing practice) or write a paragraph following bullet points (longer writing practice). (Do not worry if the photo you can see is not based on the topic you’re looking for, I used the same one for all my resources)

Resources to include in any lesson on the environment topic for GCSE / iGCSE. I used an authentic video found here : https://www.francetvinfo.fr/monde/environnement/le-cri-d-alarme-de-sabrina-krief-pour-sauver-les-grands-singes_2976205.html The activities are : vocabulary hunt / antonyms / questions (getting towards iGCSE exam style) / translations using vocabulary from the text. I also typed the whole transcript to help with the antonyms activity + check answers (or support - differentiation) Answers are provided. Let me know what you think of this resource, I would love to hear from you.

KS3/4/5 French idioms & usefully expressions (more than 100!)

I created cards for students to use to learn new French idioms. (more than 100 idioms available!) Most of them are idioms but I also added some sayings commonly used in France. What I do is that I give one to each student, they write it down in their exercise book (French + English translation), if they manage to use it effectively in a writing or speaking, they can tick it off and get a new one.

I selected authentic articles dealing with current affairs/issues in France following the A Level textbook (Edexcel) guidelines. In this booklet you will find 3 articles with an exam style questions for each article! As they are authentic, they are challenging and I use them mostly for homework asking students to search new vocabulary (vocabulary highlighted in yellow needs to be searched by students before having a go at answering questions) The answers are given, you will have to remove the “(v)” that shows where the correct answers are before printing this file for your students. There is also a box where they can write (in English or in French) facts they have learned from these articles (as this could be used for their speaking exams). Reading authentic articles will also train them for their IRP

Debate - Y10 / Y11 / 12 / 13 - New technology

I created a lesson which can easily be adapted to KS4/KS5 where students work on the topic of new technology. The listening is an authentic document - the activity attached to it is differentiated. For the debate activity, I added the names of the students (where you can see the arrows) so that they knew in which order they would have to talk. I put the stronger students at the end to challenge them. Here is the lesson plan I used: 9.10 Give lesson’s objectives - give students 2/3 minutes to THINK/PAIR/SHARE vocabulary they know on social media answering the following questions : WHAT DO YOU DO ON SOCIAL MEDIA? (vocabulary expected : Je poste des photos / messages / je tchatte, etc.) (ANSWERS TO BE MODELED) 9.15 Students given different points for social media, they need to create two lists : PROS /CONS (and look for unknown vocabulary) EXTENSION: add your own points. 9.25 LISTENING ACTIVITIES (to be listened twice as in a GCSE exam). Let students know it is an authentic document - the speed is fast. Give students the fill in the gap activity (differentiated) and give them a few minutes to go through it so that they have an idea of what is going to be said. (Should I ask students to tell me words they do not know before or after the listening?) CORRECTION
9.35 INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE DEBATE - SUCCESS CRITERIA GIVEN (could you tell me which ones to add as I do not think I have enough) Give students opinion sheets (the same one I used with Y10). Students need to decide if they are FOR or AGAINST - we need an even number in both sides, if they can’t do it, I will have to decide who is PRO/AGAINST EACH STUDENT IS GIVEN TWO OPINIONS TO USE DURING THE DEBATE (for challenge and to make sure they all use some). PREPARATION TIME : 10 MINUTES (in their team - they can agree on who is going to talk first / what point, etc.) 9.55: What I have learned ? Highlight new words seen in the lesson - ask each students to give me the top three of the words learned in the lesson.

I created this lesson to focus on social media / cyberbullying / data / cyber addiction. It was a carousel lesson. I printed the slides and put them on different tables (per topic) and students had a worksheet to complete (answering questions / looking for synonyms / summarising in bullet points, etc).
