I am an experienced Phonics teacher, who has recently started teaching Phonics to ESL preschoolers. I quickly discovered that a lot of my resources were unsuitable for children who do not have English as their first language, and at the same time I needed to adapt lessons to be taught remotely.
I plan to share resources that I currently use. If you see anything that you would like to use, but with different sounds then please contact me and I will try my best to produce an adapted version.

This activity sheet only contains the “qu” pictures because the sorting between “qu” and “cr” has already been achieved in the interactive powerpoint activity.

These “ng” digraph worksheets can either be used as a stand alone exercise or in conjunction with the cut and paste activity sheet that is also available.
Both worksheets have the 9 “ng” final sound picture disks that were used in the interactive activity, and a word bank for students that require it.
The students choose 6 of the 9 “ng” words and write a sentence about each.
Wordbank: sing, string, wing, gong, king, fang, bang, ring and swing.
One worksheet has space for 4 sentences (with top and bottom lines) and one has space for 6 sentences (with top, bottom and a middle guide line)
The “ng” grapheme is taught in Jolly Phonics Group 5 and Phase 3 Letters and Sounds (UK)
This worksheet uses some of the same “ng” elements as an interactive final sound sorting activity I created.
Students choose the correct word to complete the sentence and write it in the space provided.

Description
This is an interactive phonics sound sorting activity to assist you in teaching the “qu” digraph.
It can be used on a Smartboard and as a Google Slide Show or Powerpoint presentation.
You can use on your classroom smartboard or computer. If you are teaching remotely you can upload to Seesaw, or use remotely with Meet/Zoom/Teams.
The first two slides have a description of what is included in the file.
What is Included
There are four versions of the activity board, so that you can use it with different age and ability students, and in case you want to repeat the activity with your class.
The first three slides have the words in different positions and the fourth has a blank background (with no words under the tiles) to give you complete flexibility.
The four slides are repeated, with one version having back and white images (that match the images on the worksheets), and the second version has colour photos that are more visually appealing when using in the classroom.
In total there are 8 activity slides.
Instructions
The activity is based around a slide that contains 20 picture squares and a bed with a squared quilt.
10 pictures disks have “qu” sound images and 10 have ”cr” sound images
The objective is to identify words beginning with the “qu” sound, and then slide the picture disk containing the correct sound onto the quilt.
As the picture disk is moved it reveals the word underneath
*** Vocabulary: question, quilt, quack, queen, quail, squash, squid, squirrel, square, equals**
I did this activity with my 6 year old pre-k ESL class and they loved it, and I taught it again to a mainstream phonics class and they also loved it.
