Experienced Science teacher and Head of Department specialising predominantly in Physics at GCSE and A-level. My resources are designed as complete and ready-to-go lessons for any science teacher but are particularly suited to NQTs or those who are not 100% confident at the material yet as explanations and activities are very clearly described and answers provided wherever possible. At KS4 and KS5, lessons prepare students for their exams by incorporating exam application throughout.

Year 7 Cells lesson 3 - Microscopes and onion cell practical

(0)
Lesson 3 in year 7 cells topic looking at the microscope - its discovery and the main functional parts. Students learn how to use a microscope, why we need them and how to prepare a slide to observe under a microscope. They will also learn how to compare a labelled image of a cell to their own specimen and identify main cell features. Method for practical is included. Lesson ppt includes diagram for students to label and wordfill on preparing a microscope slide (both ready to print).

Year 7 Cells lesson 4 - Cheek cells practical and magnification

(0)
Lesson 4 in year 7 cells topic using microscope skills to look at cheek cells from swabs and calculating magnification. Students use their microscope skills learnt in previous lesson to prepare and observe a specimen of their own cheek cells. They will also learn how to calculate magnification of specimens they view as well as the actual size of cell images based on magnification factor and measurement of the image. Method for practical is included in the ppt and there is a corresponding worksheet on magnification calculations. Year 7 Cells lesson 2 - Plant cells

(0)
Lesson 2 in year 7 cells topic looking at plant cells and basic plant cell structures (worksheet with answers included). Students learn about the basic structures and functions of plant cells and how to distinguish between plant and animal cells based on what they have learnt about each cell type.
Year 7 Cells lesson 5 - Specialised cells

Year 7 Cells lesson 5 - Specialised cells

(0)
Lesson 5 in year 7 cells topic looking at specialised cells. Students build on their learning of standard cell features to think about how cells have different specialisations for different functions. Lesson ppt includes a worksheet for students to complete using information slides which you can put around the classroom.
Year 7 Cells lesson 6 - Cell division

Year 7 Cells lesson 6 - Cell division

(0)
Lesson 6 in year 7 cells topic looking at how and why cells divide. Students learn about the two forms of cell division, what each is for, where each occurs inthe body and why they need to be different. Ppt includes links to videos you may wish to use to go into more detail but they are geared to a slightly higher level than KS3.
Year 7 Cells lesson 7 - Organs and organ systems

Year 7 Cells lesson 7 - Organs and organ systems

(0)
Lesson 7 in year 7 cells topic looking at how structures come together from the sub-cellular level to form an entire organism. Students identify organs from different organ systems of the human body, then focus on the digestive system. There are info cards on the different parts of the digestive system to put around the room as well as a premade template for students to complete using this information (both included in ppt). Also attached is a worksheet for students to label on the key parts of the digestive system.

Year 7 Cells - 7 lesson bundle

7 Resources
This bundle contains all 7 lessons with their accompanying resources for the cells topic at KS3. The lessons are: L1 - Life processes and animal cells; L2 - Plant cells; L3 - Microscopes and onion cell practical; L4 - Magnification and cheek cell practical; L5 - Specialised cells; L6 - Cell division; L7 Organs and organ systems with a focus on the digestive system.

Year 7 Cells lesson 1 - Life processes and animal cells

(0)
Lesson 1 in year 7 cells topic looking at the 7 life processes and basic animal cell structures. Students learn how to distinguish whether an object should be classed as living or non-living based on information they are given and their own knowledge. There is plenty of opportunity for discussion and also some harder examples to stretch higher students such as the classification of viruses.
