A selection of “One Pen One Dice” activities for GCSE Studio French Module 4 Students take it in turns to roll the dice. The first person who rolls a 6 takes the pen and starts translating. Player 2 rolls the dice until they roll a 6 and says “C’est à moi” (It’s my turn!) This player has now won the pen and can start translating. Player 1 has the dice and needs a 6 to steal the pen. The winner is the first person to correctly translate all the sentences. NB: To make this activity “COVID-safe”, students should have a dice each and use their own pen. Are you looking to add cultural capital for your students while working remotely? This worksheet features a text and 5 comprehension exercises to help students understand how la Fête des Rois (La Fête de l’Épihanie) is celebrated in France. Tasks included: a) Find the French from the text (words are highlighted in red in the text - highlights could be removed to easily differentiate for more able students. b) Complete the sentences in French with a phrase highlighted in pink in the text - highlights could be removed to easily differentiate for more able students. c) Complete the statement in French choosing from 3 possible phrases. d) True / False / Not Mentioned exercise (statements in French) e) Identify the 10 (factual) mistakes in the English translation of the French text. Answers sheet included to enable students to self-mark, reducing teacher workload. As well as a stand-alone task, this worksheet would be the ideal introduction for students to produce their own powerpoint explaining how L’Épiphanie is celebrated, or to being asked to prepare their own galette whilst at home!
