Some students find the transition from Grade 1 sight reading, where only one hand is played at a time, to Grade 2 sight reading, where the hands often play together, to be a sudden change. This book is born out of individual pages that I started writing for one of my students to introduce her very gradually to sight reading with both hands together as none of the books I could find had enough easy examples. Now a complete digital book of 185 sight reading examples that increase in difficulty very gradually, it is perfect for the students who need more time to build their confidence and ability.
All of the examples are in five finger positions, the hands never having to move within the piece. I have followed the ABRSM Grade 2 sight parameters for sharps and flats, time signatures and note range. The rhythms have been kept simple. This book is the ideal precursor to working on Grade 2 standard pieces.
Features:
185 sight reading examples. That’s more than enough to do three a week for an entire year!
Simple pieces with the emphasis on a very slow, gradual increase in difficulty
Examples with right hand and left hand melodies
2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time
Up to two sharps or two flats
Are you bored of note games about cabbage, beef and eggs? This matching game features animals whose names contain mostly musical letters, bringing in a new set of words.
Animal Equivalents, designed for two players, helps students practise their note reading skills. Players aim to create matching pairs of pictures and notes by asking their opponent for specific cards and picking up random cards. They will need to read the note letters on the stave to identify which animal name cards they hold. Featured animals include the badger, eagle and bear.
The game lasts for approximately 10 minutes. This download includes versions for treble, bass, alto and tenor clef – just select the one that is right for your student.
Capture the most stars in Starcatcher, a two-player musical note recognition game.
Players place their stars on their own grid and then try to hunt down their opponent’s stars by giving spaces’ grid references and identifying the notes they contain. Each player is given their opponent’s answers so the game can be played by a student and teacher or by two students.
Set a timer to your required playing time (five to ten minutes is recommended) to ensure the game fits perfectly into your lessons.
This set contains treble and bass clef versions.
Do your students have trouble remembering the notes in different scales and arpeggios? This set of flashcards will help them recall which key signatures and accidentals are in which scales.
Major scale cards have the sharps or flats in the key signature listed, whilst minor scale cards include the key signature and any adjustments to the sharps or flats as dictated by the type of minor scale - harmonic, melodic and natural minors are featured. The arpeggio cards show the three notes in the arpeggio.
For ease of printing, the scales and arpeggios have been arranged in the following sections:
Major scales
Harmonic, melodic and natural minor scales for each key
Harmonic minor scales only
Melodic minor scales only
Natural minor scales only
Major arpeggios
Minor arpeggios
These flashcards can be used in lessons or as homework. Simply choose which pages to print for your student, cut them out then fold them in half and stick or laminate the halves together.
Suggestion: Print on to coloured paper or stick an additional sheet of white paper to the back of the page before cutting if you find you can see through the cards.
Help the penguins skate and slide to the Christmas tree by identifying the musical notes along the way.
This board game comes with versions for treble clef lines and spaces, bass clef lines and spaces, five finger piano treble clef C4 to G4, five finger piano bass clef C3 to G3 and five finger piano bass clef F3 to C4.
Simply print the game board and use a dice and counters to play.
Santa needs you to collect the items he needs for his Christmas party, identifying the musical notes on your way.
This board game comes with versions for treble clef lines and spaces, bass clef lines and spaces, five finger piano treble clef C4 to G4, five finger piano bass clef C3 to G3 and five finger piano bass clef F3 to C4.

These trick or treaters have given themselves spooky codenames for Halloween. Each of the nine trick or treaters has written their codename in musical notes. Decode the letters to work out their matching codenames.
This resource contains nine matching pairs in the treble clef set and an otherwise identical nine matching pairs in the bass clef.
This is a pictorial game of matching pairs with words spelled with on the stave using the letters A-G and corresponding image cards. It has been designed to give students further practice in identifying note pitches.
There are 14 pairs with versions for the treble and bass clefs using the notes on the lines and spaces in a variety of rhythms.
The game has two versions, either with colourful backs or with plain low-ink cards so you can choose the set that best suits your printing requirements. The cards have straight edges and have been carefully aligned so you can cut them out easily before either folding and laminating, or folding and gluing them.
These treble and bass clef flashcards are ideal for checking your students’ knowledge in lessons and for giving them their own copies to practise their note recognition skills between lessons.
The treble clef cards go from the G below the stave to the D above the stave (G2-D6). The bass clef cards go from the B below the stave to the F above the stave (B1-F4).
Simply cut out the cards, fold them and either stick them together or, for a more hard-wearing copy, laminate them.
Harness your unicorns and race them around the board in this magical time signature game.
In Unicorns Forever, players are challenged to create matching sets of time signatures and bars using a variety of note and rest cards.
The game uses the 2/4, 3/4 and 4/4 time signatures. Note and rest lengths included are semibreves (whole notes), dotted minims (dotted half notes), minims (half notes), dotted crotchets (dotted quarter notes), crotchets (quarter notes), dotted quavers (dotted eighth notes), quavers (eighth notes) and semiquavers (sixteenth notes). The rhythms have all been made up to whole beats so each note/rest card adds up to one, two, three or four beats.
Players move their unicorn one step around the board for each set they create. For the non-unicorn lovers of the world, the game can also be played with just the cards, seeing who can create the most sets in five or 10 minutes.
Who will have the most perfect crown before the time elapses?
Ideal for the King’s Coronation but suitable for any day of the year, this board game challenges players to name the musical note lengths or give the number of beats they represent. Players travel around the board collecting and colouring the gems on their crowns, with the most decorated crown winning. The game takes five to 10 minutes; you can choose how much time to put on the timer to suit your lesson.
There are two levels.
Level 1:
Crotchets/quarter notes
Minims/half notes
Dotted minims/dotted half notes
Semibreves/whole notes
Level 2:

Race to collect all the items for the perfect summer’s day at the beach. This seasonal board game challenges players to name the notes they see on the staff or to find the notes on the piano. All you need is the printed game board, a counter for each player (two players), a pencil and a dice. It takes 5 to 10 minutes to play. You can also set a timer and see who can collect the most objects in that time to ensure it fits perfectly into your lesson.
This pack includes eight boards:
– Treble clef lines and spaces
– Bass clef lines and spaces
– Alto clef lines and spaces
– Tenor clef lines and spaces
– Treble clef C4-G4 for five finger piano

Race to draw your Easter chick first in this seasonal note recognition game.
Inspired by the traditional parlor game, Beetle Drive, students must take a card and add in the corresponding body part to their picture. Each card shows a musical note on the stave, which players identify to discover the linking body part. For example, when a B is shown, the player draws the head. The winner is the first player to draw a complete chick or, if you decide to play a timed game, the player who has drawn the most body parts when the time is up.
The game includes card sets for the treble, bass, alto and tenor clefs. Simply choose which cards you wish to use.
Aimed at young beginner pianists, this pack contains 21 games to help students take their first steps on their musical journey.
The games take children from their first exploration of the sounds pianos make into understanding the concept of higher and lower pitches. They then focus on finding the different notes on the piano keyboard before moving on to reading their first notes on the staff.
Note identification games use five-finger positions surrounding middle C (treble clef C4-G4 and bass clef F3-C4) and also from the C below middle C (bass clef C3-G3) so you can select the hand position on which your method book focuses. Note length games use crotchets, minims, dotted minims and semibreves (quarter notes, half notes, dotted half notes and whole notes).
The games have been designed to require minimal preparation and not to use excessive ink. Board games can be played immediately after printing. Games cards have straight edges and are accurately lined up so that they can be cut quickly. The games take an average of five minutes to play, meaning they can easily be used within a weekly instrumental lesson.

Here’s what Tim Spoerer, founder of Jam-Bus, had to say about our Grade 1 and 2 Music Theory Packs:
“Last year I ran my first Music Theory Class with Years 5 & 6. It was an enormous success with the vast majority achieving Distinction Grades. It was largely in thanks to Teaching with Ease’s excellent music games. I set up the “Music Theory Games Arcade” for them every lesson and they really loved it. It gave a really fun thing to look forward to in lessons.
“Once the PDFs were downloaded, I could print them and laminate them meaning we can use them time and time again in the build up to their exams.”
