In this lesson children will learn all about Mayan written language, their hieroglyphics, glyphs and logograms. After an engaging multimedia teaching input, they will explain their understanding of the objective and go on to draw comparisons with how we communicate in the 21st Century. This is then followed by an activity that enables the children to design their own logograms/hieroglyphics in a Mayan style. Complete 1hr lesson (could run to 90 mins) including... - PowerPoint: starter activity, teaching input (with web resource and video links) and a plenary activity. - Worksheet pack with two worksheets plus extension activity for any early finishers. - Teachers' notes. Children learn about each punctuation mark and the importance of adding punctuation at the end of sentences, identifying which punctuation to use. They then work through 4 activities designed to develop their understanding using different skills. They identify, create and explain, with the more able going on to a challenging extension activity. This KS2 character descriptions lesson contains starter, teaching input, example for modelled writing, peer-assessment and further plenary activity on the PowerPoint PLUS all worksheets and teachers' notes for a complete and thorough lesson pack. The lesson is flexible and can be used with a character from a book you are reading in class, a character from a story the children are planning or a character from a selection of full colour images provided in the learning activity pack: full colour images are also differentiated.
