"If you teach each student the way you want your child to be taught, you will never have to wonder if you are doing your best"- A.Adams. It is important for us to always teach the best we can, however we all know that teaching can sometimes be overwhelming, and the work life balance can be difficult to maintain. So, what can you do? The English teacher provides full schemes of work, sample answers, and individual PowerPoints for KS3 and 4. Great lessons with virtually no planning time.

An introduction to poetry

Two PowerPoint slides to teach year 9/10 students about poetry. The first PowerPoint introduces the class to the AQA anthology, looking at the themes of Power and Conflict. The second PowerPoint looks at the relevant literary devices that students will need while annotating the poems in the Power and Conflict cluster. This download will also include a useful literary terms definition sheet that can be either handed out to the students or used as a weekly spelling test sheet. It also includes a ‘literary device match-up’ using the devices from the PowerPoint slides.

This download provides two PowerPoints, designed to be used over two lessons. The first introduces the poem to the class and has a class activity. The second provides you with a fully annotated version of the poem, including meaning, imagery, techniques and language features. I have also included an ‘Exposure’ language feature worksheet and a modified version for lower ability. The final sheet is a question sheet, this can either be given as homework or as an extension task.
