Year 13 Edexcel Maths Suggested Long Term Plan

(0)
This is the year-long pattern of lessons I have devised to finish the new linear maths course with Edexcel. This assumes that you are delivering 5 lessons per week in a two week cycle using two staff, dividing the course equally. The plans include time for review lessons and an assessment in school at the end of the 10 week module. Feedback would be welcomed.

Revision End of Year Assessment (Based on Edexcel Nov 2017 P2 F)

(0)
Designed for lower ability KS3 students who will be taking an end of year assessment based on the second paper of the Edexcel November 2017 new spec paper. This is to help weaker students pick up marks on selected topics such as basic manipulation, area by counting, ratio, primes, multiples. This is not covering the whole paper…just to build confidence in students who would struggle to pick up any points at the start of the paper. The powerpoint contains similar questions and the resource to print to accompany it contains brief notes and then several quick questions to practise. Answers not included.

WHOLE LESSON: FOUNDATION READING A LINEAR SCALE

(0)
Complete fully differentiated lesson for students working at grades 1,2,3,4. Topic is writing which number the arrow is pointing to on a linear scale with 4,5 or 10 divisions. The powerpoint shows the students how to tackle the problem using a strategy of subtraction then division to see the step size. Fully differentiated resource goes from 1 star (easy) to 3 star (hard) which includes decimals sub-intervals and some time intervals
WHOLE LESSON METRIC UNITS (LENGTH) CONVERSION
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON METRIC UNITS (LENGTH) CONVERSION

(0)
Entire lesson to teach students how to convert between grams and kilograms. Fully differentiated resources shows students how to convert between the two units and then has some problems to solve. 1 star is very simple conversions involving little movement of decimal point and then two and three star involve more complex decimals and more complex problems to solve. Fully animated Powerpoint shows students all they need to know
WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION REVISION: ALGEBRA BASICS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON FOUNDATION REVISION: ALGEBRA BASICS

(0)
Complete revision lesson for lower ability GCSE students or higher ability younger students which covers the basics of algebraic manipulation. The topics covered are collection of terms, simplification of powers, expansions of brackets, evaluating and creating expressions. The powerpoint takes you through the basics and then the differentiated write-on resource allows students to select one of two levels of questions. Answers are not included. There is a screen shot of the resource on the last slide of the powerpoint

I am busy writing new schemes of work for the Year 13 new a level course. I would welcome comments on this entire lesson. The powerpoint (complete with differentiated objectives) will show students how to simplify expressions. The fully differentiated resource comes with complete model solutions which I intend to print for the students, along with the task sheet. A lesson summary sheet for your teaching files will also be included (but that is still being created) Any additions or comments on the structure would be appreciated
Naming 2D and 3D shapes
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

Naming 2D and 3D shapes

(2)
A simple differentiated booklet to print to get foundation (or early years students) to recall the names of 2D and 3D shapes…often a sticking point of lower ability KS4 students
REVISION GCSE FOUNDATION TRANSFORMATIONS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

REVISION GCSE FOUNDATION TRANSFORMATIONS

(0)
A full lesson on the practise of the four main transformations: rotation, reflection, enlargement and translation. Full animated powerpoint shows students the basics of the transformation and then some typical exam style questions. The spreadsheet contains multiple resources, all of which are differentiated and can be printed for the students to write on. Many contain the answers also.
ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY GCSE FOUNDATION
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

ROTATIONAL SYMMETRY GCSE FOUNDATION

(0)
An introduction to rotational symmetry: a topic for some reason all lower ability students accept and then forget! The fully animated powerpoint shows the tracing of a shape and spinning it around 1 full revolution. Other examples are then shown. The fully differentiated resource goes from 1 star (multi choice) to 3 star (demanding complete the shape so that it has rotational symmetry type questions). All tasks can be printed and written on, although you may have to adjust the dimensions of the sheet so that it prints near perfect square grids (this will affect the quarter turns). Answers are not given
WHOLE LESSON: SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON: SIMULTANEOUS EQUATIONS

(0)
Multiple lessons and resources to take a KS3/4 class from the very start of simultaneous equations through to more complex examples. I teach it via matching the coefficient of the middle term and then applying different sign add or same sign subtract. The powerpoint takes the students through the phases of the work where, at first the coefficients match. Then students will have to multiply through to enable a match. Finally there is manipulation of both equations required. At least 5 different resources, many of which can be written on and some answers are contained. Homework task is available also.
GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN OF SMALL DISCRETE DATA SET
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

GCSE FOUNDATION: MEAN OF SMALL DISCRETE DATA SET

(0)
A classic lesson that introduced students to how to calculate the mean. The resource is fully differentiated and can be written on. It contains standard calculate the mean questions and the reverse questions where students are asked to complete a set of cards whose mean is given. There is a code-breaker exercise included
GCSE FOUNDATION MEDIAN, MODE AND RANGE FULL LESSON
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

GCSE FOUNDATION MEDIAN, MODE AND RANGE FULL LESSON

(0)
I deliver the easiest of the measures of data in one lesson. The mode, median and range all obtained from small data sets. The powerpoint is animated and shows the importance of the ordering of the data and then gives definitions. The classic “give me 3 numbers whose median is 4 and range is 5” type problems are also developed during the lesson. The resource can be printed on and is fully differentiated from one star (lots of support and small data sets) through to 3 star (larger data sets, even numbers of data and more challenging questions). Note answers are not given
EDEXCEL CORE 4 REVISION GRIDS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

EDEXCEL CORE 4 REVISION GRIDS

(0)
Three sets of 12 quick fire questions to help prepare Year 13 students for the Core 4 examination. The grid is printed off and students can answer in the box (if printed on A3 paper). The powerpoint can be shown to give model solutions or used as a mark scheme
DIFFERENTIATED REVISION GRIDS: FOUNDATION GCSE TOPICS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

DIFFERENTIATED REVISION GRIDS: FOUNDATION GCSE TOPICS

(0)
Three differentiated grids for quick fire revision created to help students review the content of our first module of study in school. Ideal for preparation for end of module examinations or homeworks. Each grid contains 20 questions based on number skills, ratio, proportion, simple algebra manipulation, angle theory, perimeter. There is an easy version (1 star) and a harder version (2 star) and students can select (or be guided) to the side that they wish to attempt. All in all 120 questions…but no answers (you have to work them out yourselves!).
FOUNDATION GCSE REVISION OF EQUATION SOLVING: WHOLE LESSON
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

FOUNDATION GCSE REVISION OF EQUATION SOLVING: WHOLE LESSON

(0)
An entire lessons devoted to re-visiting the various equations a lower ability foundation student (or younger student) will have to tackle. This goes from one step (x + a = b) through to classic two step (ax + b = c), through brackets (a(bx+c)=d) and finally letters on both sides (ax+b=cx+d). The equations are nearly all positive integer solutions and so can be solved without a calculator. The resource can be written on and is full differentiated from 1 star (lots of support and little variation in the style) to 3 star (simply the equation). I have included another document which is a little more watered down. The powerpoint takes students through how to solve equations by inverse operations. Note there are no answers to the task
FULL LESSON FOUNDATION GCSE: STARTER EQUATIONS (LETTERS BOTH SIDES)
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

FULL LESSON FOUNDATION GCSE: STARTER EQUATIONS (LETTERS BOTH SIDES)

(0)
The first lesson for low ability KS3 or 4 students where we introduce them to solving equations of the type 2x + 3 = x + 9. The powerpoint is animated and uses the classic balance pan approach or a more dynamic “zapping” approach. The fully differentiated resource goes from 1 star (diagrams drawn for students and they simply scribble over the x counters and number counters) through to 3 star where students will attempt to solve using only manipulation. The resource is printed so that students can write on, thus saving time. Note that answers are not included and that there are no negative x terms in the equation (that would be next lesson). A lesson checkout is included where students can be quizzed on what they have done in the lesson.
AS LEVEL MATHEMATICS 2017 LESSON 61 DEFINITE INTEGRATION
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

AS LEVEL MATHEMATICS 2017 LESSON 61 DEFINITE INTEGRATION

(0)
A lesson that gets students to evaluate integrals with limits. The students will have practised how to integrate expressions and will not yet be told as to the role of the limits. This will give them practise at substituting the numbers and subtracting. The powerpoint takes the students through this process and then there is a fully differentiated resource complete with model answers, all of which have been checked.
