WHOLE LESSON: FOUNDATION NUMBER SKILLS REVISION

(1)
An entire lesson that covers foundation number elements that students frequently forget: HCF, LCM, BIDMAS, square numbers, four rules of number, powers of numbers. The mental starter is differentiated and is simple number work in context of buying items at a cafe. The powerpoint takes students through the exact questions that they will be tackling in the resource. The last slide shows the first 10 square numbers and prime numbers. The resource is then fully differentiated from 1 star to 3 star with questions based on the content of the slide show. This can be printed out and students write on the resource.
WHOLE LESSON: SIMPLE ESTIMATION OF CALCULATIONS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON: SIMPLE ESTIMATION OF CALCULATIONS

(0)
A complete lesson on the basics of trying to estimate the answer to a calculation by rounding the numbers. Ideal for any student working at grades 1,2 or 3. The differentiated starter gets students to round numbers (answers given). The powerpoint then takes them through the skill of estimating and gives real life examples (context). The resource that accompanies the lesson matches what the students have been shown and can be printed for them to write on. There are also 3 bonus worksheets in the file as well. The lesson checkout can be used as a plenary to assess what your students have learned
WHOLE LESSON: DECIMAL PLACE VALUE
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON: DECIMAL PLACE VALUE

(0)
An entire lesson that shows students the value of the digits in a decimal number. There is a differentiated starter where students have to recall simple doubles. The powerpoint then shows students which label we attach to which digit. It goes into an extension of converting decimals to fractions if so interested. The fully differentiated resource contains 3 bonus worksheets which can all be printed off and written on by the students
WHOLE LESSON: USES OF NEGATIVE NUMBER
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON: USES OF NEGATIVE NUMBER

(0)
A lesson to introduce negative number and where they arise. The starter is a differentiated student choice mental addition and subtraction exercise where students must work out the missing number in a chain that gives a certain total. The answers are shown on this. The main powerpoint shows an animated use of a number line as a thermometer but also as a height indicator and as profit and loss. The spreadsheet contains multiple resources which you can chose, many of which are differentiated and all of which are write-on so that students do not have to spend tim drawing things
WHOLE LESSON COINS AND TOTALS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON COINS AND TOTALS

(0)
A simple but effective lesson designed to brush up on students basic addition and subtraction skills under the backdrop of money. This is based on the old SATS questions where students would be asked to make different combinations of coins that gave a certain total. The powerpoint contains a variety of questions and then the resource has multiple tasks on different sheets that you can use to differentiate. Some are interactive and will change by pressing F9 on the sheet, thus creating an infinite amount of variations. Surprisingly challenging and always relevant.
WHOLE LESSON BUY ONE GET FREE CALCULATIONS
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON BUY ONE GET FREE CALCULATIONS

(1)
Fully differentiated lesson aimed at foundation students who are tackling the now regular examination problems where items are bought under "buy one get free" type deals. The animated powerpoint takes students through how to simply buy, for example, 6 tins of catfood when there is a deal of buy one get one half price. There is a more challenging "how many could you buy with £10?" type question. The resource which mirrors the presentation can be written on and is fully differentiated from 1 star to 3 star depending on the confidence of the student
2 WHOLE LESSONS: Interior angle sum of triangle
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

2 WHOLE LESSONS: Interior angle sum of triangle

(1)
This is really two lessons in one. I use it over two successive lessons. The first lesson covers basic angle sum of a triangle and the second the special case of the isosceles triangle. The starter gets students to estimate 10 angles and then the powerpoint takes students through how to calculate the missing angle in a diagram. The resource contains two booklets that can be printed off in booklet form for the students to write on....thus no time wasted drawing diagrams. The numbers are normally multiples of 5 and so this can be done mentally
Differentiated Maths Basic Skills Starter

Differentiated Maths Basic Skills Starter

(3)
5 minute warm up with three different tiers of questions. Students select the tier of questions and have 5 minutes to answer as many as they can. Answers are on the next slide. Great for lesson starters with any students working at basic level (GCSE grades 1/2/3)
AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 21 Factorise a Cubic
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 21 Factorise a Cubic

(0)
This lesson will take students through how to factorise and sketch the graph of a cubic equation. The trial of the first root, the application of the factor theorem and then the divisional process is shown in detail. Graphs are drawn to illustrate the geometry of the work. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated
AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lessons 19 and 20 Factor Theorem
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lessons 19 and 20 Factor Theorem

(0)
This is two lessons in one to allow students to practise the factor theorem. The new specification does not specifically refer to the remainder theorem but the classic problems are still worth looking at to get students to practice the skills involved. The powerpoint (which has a starter) will take students through the types of problem involving finding unknown coefficients. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated. The other lesson simply reinforces this work
AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 18 Division of Polynomials
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 18 Division of Polynomials

(0)
This entire lesson will talk through the algorithm of division. Typically a cubic is divided by a linear term. The powerpoint (which contains a starter) will show how each term is generated and its place in the division process. Students will also see how the answer (quotient and remainder) fit together and can be used to check. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated
AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 17 The Straight Line
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

AS Level 2017 Mathematics Lesson 17 The Straight Line

(0)
This complete lesson will guide your students through the often perceived difficulty of using the equation of a straight line in the form y = mx +c to deduce the gradient and the intercept. There is no plotting of the lines but more an algebraic manipulation. The lesson incorporates when lines can be parallel and perpendicular and students are encouraged to think about setting one variable to zero to find where the line crosses the other axis. The resource that accompanies the lesson is fully differentiated. This lesson can be used for gifted KS3 or 4 students
WHOLE LESSON POWERS AND POWER LAWS (FOUNDATION)
Weltmeister7Weltmeister7

WHOLE LESSON POWERS AND POWER LAWS (FOUNDATION)

(0)
An entire lesson taking students through powers of numbers and letters and the simple application of the three main power laws with positive integral powers. The starter is a 10 question true or false activity to warm students up with basic facts that they should know. The powerpoint talks students through the concept of a power of a number and then of a variable. There is a justificiation of the addition law of powers and then there is use of the division law and the power of a power. The resource that accomanies the lesson is differentiated from 1 to 3 stars and can be written on by your students. There are notes at the top of each page so that students can review what they have learned. Stuck in the students' books this becomes a learning tool.

Year 12 A level Maths Interim Assessment 1

(1)
This is an interim assessment which can be given to any class embarking on the new a level spec from 2017. It covers the topics of basic algebra, surds, index theory and quadratic equations. The assessment itself will last an hour and there is a follow up lesson where students can tackle similar questions. The powerpoint acts as a marck scheme and can be used to assess the piece of work. It can also be played during the feedback lesson to model correct answers for students. Printing it will give students a chance to have a model solution pack to their assessment.
